HPFP Failure??

Hi Guys i know this is covered alot in past threads, but i think i finally have this problem... started off with long cranking (worse when its a cold morning), now the car refuses to accelerate, it goes immediately into limp mode when i accelerate briskly... switch off and on and car is fine, them it happens all over again, a journey to work now involves at least 10 start ups... sometimes the management light doesnt come on and the car sounds like it has a burst exhaust pipe not accelerating at all... anyone experienced this??

@Dm it can be anything!

Here is my thread of the infamous HPFP issues:

http://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=8821

What you have to do is to take the car to the dealer - is it still under waranty? Is the car modded, if so what kind of mods? (okay just saw your signature)

The new HPFP (933) released in March 2010, has been holding up great since I installed it a couple of months ago; so I think BMW has finally manage to fix this problem....:thinker:....there are also very little if any reported failures on this new pump.

So once again...have the car scanned and take it from there but dont drive the car around any longer; with the symptoms as you described them the car needs immediate attention.

Great stuff. Keep us posted and dont take any shit from the dealer. Let them check all the possible problems...exhaust leaks...pump...injectors....etc....

I think i should Revo....:)

Just got back from BMW, they put the car on diagnostics and couldnt find any errors, took the car for a drive and the problem is still there, they are now going to do further diagnostics, they said it will take abt 4 days.... :dunno:
I mentioned that the 335is have HPFP issues they laughed at me.... :dropjaw: hmm shows how well they know these cars!!!!!:mmm:

Either way the car is undrivable so i have no choice.

Update : i went to fetch the cabby on Monday afternoon, they cornfirm all is well, they took the car for test drive etc and it was all good.... Yeah right, i pull off from the first robo... car goes limp immediately, frustrated, i drove back and went straight to the branch managers office with my sales guy, explained that the car is still not fixed, before i could say any more, he mentioned that the x35i's are plagued with HPFP, Cams and Wastegate probs.... Car will have to sit at BMW for a month or so, they going to have to start checking all these hardware....

Jeesh, these okes are a bunch of morons. I've had such a bad experience with BMW service, its more than enough to keep me from getting another one. :bawling:

Goodluck bud, hope you get sorted soon.

Shot 1lum...

Anile8.... They said they gonna give me a car to use in the interim... very annoying considering the car is 100% stock and i barely drive hard.. let alone race it!!

You see mod and race the damn thing... So if it breaks you got a reason:)...On a more serious note, hope it works out quickly. To be without ones car for so long is unacceptable

Got the cab back today, new fuel pump and some other little things, but she seems to run fine now, they said it would be trial and error, if i experience the prob again, they will have to look at injectors next, i dont understand how they couldnt identify or single out the problem given the high tech on these cars...

Glad she's home for the big days. Take it easy with the new pump and drive it hard after 2000k's again to make sure all is good.

Did they give you number of the new pump?

While driving down from Johannesburg to East London I got a warning light "Engine malfunction, reduced power". Is this related to the HPFP?...I stopped for a break, switched off the car, 30min later start the engine and the light was gone. Does this mean I should have the HPFP replaced?

Not necessarily. Considering the distance you covered you may have had just some heatsoak; for which the turbo cars are notorious for.

There are some cases where guys changing altitude get a fault someway half way down or up. Happens to a lot of people driving up from Durban. If your car is not taking long to crank in the mornings when cold you shouldn't worry.

The injectors are suspect to all the dealers. In the states they have started a full recall on all the cars build prior to 2008 Oct for a injector change. On the other hand and in my opinion the dealers milk the motorplan badly.
