how the feck to pair a phone via IDrive??

I have found the menu in idrive and try to pair a new phone. The phone picks up the idrive and I try and pair where the idrive asks for a pin, I enter any random 5 digit code into the idrive on the BMW.... it then returns "pairing was not successful. please start the pairing procedure again. if the problem reoccurs, your telephone might be incompatible"

This is with my Blackbery Storm and I tried with my wife's Nokia E71 and got the same error on both attempts.

Is there something special involved in pairing or is my phone incompatible? I doubt it could be this....is there anyone else who experienced such a problem?

Look in your BMW manual, you will find in there a default pairing number, but it would be something like 00000 or 55555 or something, its in the book though.

Just take that number and insert it into the phone when asked, and done

Thanks for the reply...however i have looked thru the operating instructions for Communication Systems.....operators handbook and looked thru the service/auxilliary owners handbook and i cannot find the default pin you are referring to.....do you know which Manual and Page exactly......really appreciate your help...thanks

I know on my dads e90 (not I drive), I set up using 0000.

Another thing Tho is whentrying to pair it says on the screen i can chose a pin of my Choice....so wonder if it is that!
