The biggest problem is the sump on the V8's and I6's are in different places so the subframe is in the way. This means that a custom sump will have to be manufactured for the engine to fit in the bay. Then there is a custom exhaust and the suspension will have to be uprated and the brakes and and it will ruin your bank account.
You would also have to change how the steering and brakes fit, keeping in mind that these things are different even between the I6 and V8 5'ers.
Guys often joke regarding the 340i/344i and 350i builds that it might be easier fitment-wise to just put the engine in upside down.
Buuut, anything can be made to fit, it is just a question of money.
