My engine is out of the car at the moment. Its in pieces.
Got the quote to rebuilt the engine completely and its not pretty. WHich i was
expecting, so its not a surprise.

Not I can rebuild the engine like new, or I could look at doing a transplant...
Just not how much trouble its going to be getting the new motor in.
Just throwintg the idea around for now, but the M62 ( E39 m5 ) engine would be bee's knee's.... But no idea what a project like that would cost.

The M62 was found on the 540i's, the engine in the E39 M5 is the S62.

Be prepared to spend at least 4 x on that conversion than what it would cost to repair your S50. And know from the beginning that it wont be perfect. These conversions always have niggles.

Oh, and the car will be worthless (if you do the transplant) if you want to sell one day.

I would just repair the old engine, or buy a cutout S50b32 if you want to upgrade from your current b30

Not sure the V8 will fit. I speak under correction, but I believe some work is needed on the sub frame to get it in so the bonnet can close??
