How do you abuse an automatic gearbox?

Forcing launch control
Switching from "D" to "N" too frequently (such as at robots etc)
Switching from "R" to "D" before you actually stopped reversing
Parking on a hill and letting the car roll into "gear" when in "P"

Ummm.....

Some of you might be aware of the issues I have been having with my 335i's auto box http://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=52504.

I am aware of what can cause issues with a manual i.e. riding clutch, snap changes, hard launches etc.. But what can cause an auto to start acting up?

Hard driving whilst cold.
Hard driving
Keep in manual mode rev to 7k and decelerate and then abruptly accelerate and on and on.

Hold it in gear with your foot on the brake and load the torque converter and release brake when torque converter fully loaded......leads to bent vanes and other stuff.
A few more things but you get the drift............

Wow, there is a lot of ways :=):

Not guilty of most of these, except maybe the reverse -> drive one. Live in a busy road and the idiots don't give you a chance to reverse out of driveway and pull away.

Would switching from D to DS and vice versa while car is moving cause issues?

I reckon if the gear lever can be switched without having to hold the button in, then it's safe to do so :dunno:

I switch from "D" to "DS" and back while moving and never feel or hear anything wrong, and it can be done without having to hold the brake or hold the button in...

You can also switch from "D" to "N" and back without issues while moving
