How Dirty is your Auto Box Sump

There has been the occasional discussion regarding lifetime oils for the auto gearboxes and the need or not to change oils.

The following pics are from a ZF5HP19 gearbox from an e39 with 150 000Km.

The black streaks you see in the oil can be considered as foreign (worn clutch material)

You will equally notice that the magnets are looking "furry".

Ouch! Why was it taken apart, were the clutch packs slipping?

Hey I do not like moderators!.......so duck!

:)

Congrats on your appointment Gert !

No slipping we just did an oil flush oil filter change and new oils.
Car belongs to Zahier who tells me that it has never been smoother.
I think Rafeeq had a similar experience with his wagon.

Was this on a petrol or diesel model, any negative symptoms displayed or just preventative maintenance?

If you could, would appreciate a pm with costing for this procedure.

Haha Peter, I don't like the mods either. They a bunch of vuilbekke off forum hey. But thanks :)

I do have the 320d's box that will need a rebuild soon. But that frikken M is hemmoraging cash like crazy. And I want to make sure it's tip top before I strip the box on the 320 as the M will be my daily for a while.

Hi guys, sorry to hijack the thread. I'm also wondering if I need to do an oil change. I have an E39 2002 built with about 328k on the clock. I'm starting to hear a whining noise when I pull off an incline (sounds more like worn belt tensioners). I tried revving the car on neutral and it's fine. Will this oil change fix this or I'm too late?

Thanks for the compliments!!! Do you perhaps know who in Jo'burg can do this, or I to go to any BMW dealership. Your help is highly appreciated.

Howzit, why don't you get hold of Gizmo on the forum so he can have a look for you?
