Hi all,

First off, dig the passion you all show towards your BMW's and all the brilliant knowledge and insight you have.

A family member has offered his 328i (2001) model to me with 170 000 on the clock. I am really very tempted. I realize that maintenance costs will be higher than what I'm currently used to ( I drive a 97 Polo 1.8 with 280 000 on the clock ). Any kind of advise on the 328i would be most helpful. Hoping his new ride gets signed by early Jan 14. Holding thumbs

Thanks a mil
B

Welcome to the forum

Can't go wrong with an E46 petrol, and those 328i's are really nice

Mileage is also not bad for the age of the car.

There might be some items you'll want service over time, CCV, ICV, disa flap and vanos. Those are the only notable things regarding the engine that come to mind. And not always a problem but will bring a lot of power back to the car. More than an exhaust or software that's for sure.

Servicing them are not difficult at all. Quite enjoyable to work on actually.

Very addictive car to own. You won't regret it. Lot's of DIY's available if something does need fixing :)

An an ex 328i Owner I can recommend it. The gearbox and engine is pretty much indestructible of looked after properly.

They are quite thirsty tho...
