Hit Pothole with 125i SportLine

Hi guys,

Tell me will the car still be driven if the suspension is damaged ?
I hit the pothole with left/passenger side tyres..
- front Tyre blew, and rim was slightly damaged
>> got the rim fixed
- Rear Tyre was affected as well but not the rim

When went to fit tyres at Tyger wheel...tried to do alignment but it was severe out on left tyre side. So went to BMW dealership for checking they detected the actual pothole damage some where (surely around left front tyre)... I went to BMW literal driving @ 10KM/hr I could hear some fun noise on my left front tyre side. So they sent the to Appreved repair centre.

So I want to pay the repair by cash...Im scared of what the costs might be, these guys charge you the arm and the leg.... :(

So guys do you think the damage might be that severe the car was driving no engine computer alert or some sort just the left tyre you could see it wasnt that straight ..

Can the repair cost me over R20 000?
PS: I'm still waiting for quotation from ARC ( Club Motors Randburg )

Any knowledge ?

Its probably suspension components causing that noise, a damaged coupling, shock, control arm etc.

Best not to get too excited about it and wait to see what the ARC says. In the mean time, start saving.

Thanks Nastaliq !
BUT lets assume the worst saying its those suspension components...On your knowledge would they really cost me over R20k (my budget ) to fix it ?

if left front side is that what's affected - does it mean they will have to replace right front side as well ?
if you think ?

Claim from your insurance. All you have to pay is the excess?

Similar thing happened to me in December. Hit a pothole and damaged my front left suspension.

Claimed from insurance, all sorted.

ok worst case scenario.., they increase you premiums.., by a hundred or so rands per month.., still beats paying R20k from your pocket and then have th eworry about who is fixing the car and if they do it right.., any issues and the hassles that come with that. Insurance will take most of that stress away.

I chose an insurance that does not have a no claim bonus so i dont have to worry about claiming and losing said bonus. An increase is an increase, bound to happen, i would just look around for quotes if i feel the increase is not realistic.

Dude, you have to report the damage to insurance wether you claim or not. They can reject your next claim if they pick up a previous repair that was done. It will affect your risk profile either way so just claim from them.

Same thing happened to me in Dec, repaired in Jan :
Both Left Mags had to be replaced
Left Shock Tower needed repair
Front Caliper had to be replaced
Front tyre replaced

I see you have to Club Motors Randburg, I know Kempton Park is a long way from there,

but

If you want, then bring it into my shop, and let my suspension technician have a look at it (FOR FREE) and then he will point out the exact problem and all the suspected components that might need replacement.

and then you will have a better idea, R20 000 seems very "OVER_INFLATED"

Total claim was just over R10k. My premiums didn't change at all.

P.S. The car in question is a 2006 323i Exclusive (pre-LCI E90)

Post the quote when you have it, would be very interested to see what they all say - and I am sure the others would too! If you can, I would take try and get the car to Ralf, or for that matter an independent suspension workshop and let them give you a second opinion.

But I reckon you might have to consider claiming for this repair rather than paying out of your own pocket - it was a pothole that caused the damage after all!
