Hey guys, I know this thread is old by now but I realised I never shared the sollution to my idling problem:
Believe it or not, it was really simple - I still don't understand how it solved it, but it's been months now, and still the problem has not come up again.
I put new tyres on in Dec 09, and when they checked alignment, I had a look under the car (a rare oppurtunity for those of us that don't have yards, never mind ramps in a workshop) and I discovered something wedged in a space between the frame and some of the plates under the car, more or less right under the passenger seat. It was a spiky ball seed thingy (I believe that's the scientific name) - ;-).
It was about 1cm diameter, and the spikes stuck out about 2 to 3 cm from the hard centre shell. I removed it with some force (it was really wedged in there), and booya, no more high idling...????
As said, it hasn't been back since, so I can only assume its a really freaky coincidence or there must be some sensor or something there?.
PS...Got mattes from a dealer, R600 from Clearwater BMW, and they're awesome.
Thanks all
