only real problem i would say with 320d's is turbo.. the two litre diesels are for some reason definitely more prone to turbo failure.. even the e90, although much more rare than the e46 320d..

e46's wear back tyres due to spring sag (excessive rear camber)

have very rarely seen outright injector failure.. i think workshops are too prone to replacing injectors at the drop of a hat. if you have ever held a diesel injector in your hand you will realize how microscopic the spray holes in the nozzle are.. the can block easily due to foreign material in the fuel, so imho most injectors can be serviced, which is much cheaper than new injectors..

btw INPA can be used to very accurately diagnose diesel injectors..

2003 320d 6 Speed ....... 413,000km's

My Sisters car bought at 260,000km's as a non runner with faulty turbo - I had the original Garrett serviced and repaired and the injectors serviced. Since then it has needed only basic servicing. The only other thing of interest is that the car is driven fairly hard.

In my opinion, the biggest problem with these cars is cheap oil, town driving and drivers who don't "Put Voet" ...... I have seen several vvt turbos with the actuator and vanes seized solid because the owners think they are doing the car a favor by driving it gently

Also....stay away from those cheapy replacement turbos advertised on Gumtree

I use a 2006 e90 320d as an everyday car. Bought it on 135000km,it's standing now on 189000km.Use it 6 days a week doing over 100km a day. Was a tractor hater to be honest but since the first day I jumped in,its changed my perception of diesels completely.I love it to bits and will replace it soon with another diesel for sure.

Mechanically she is perfect.Fuel consumption is excellent. Apart from the routine services i.e brakes, oil changes, oil filters etc the only problem I encountered was a damper pulley which I did last year. Apparently that's a common issue but other than that have not spent a cent on it. Best buy of my life.Look after them and they will go forever.Go for it bud, won't regret it

Hi. How much to replace the damper pulley.

I have also heard that you must tramp it every now and then to clean the egr and stuff of carbon.

Apparently a good ice run now and then is healthy for the car. Lol.

My father has a 2001, 320d, e46. Approx 220 000km, 3rd turbo, dieselpump, injectors (if im right) a year ago thought he blew a top gasket, didnt hav the time or "time" to fix it (pensioner) got it to our trusty bm mac last week from Tzaneen to GP. The mac says its a shot water/oil cooler, R15k to repair and only then he will have a look at the engine. So other than that lol, GREAT car that only gave us pleasure. If I had the maens, would have bought my dad another one. Great car!

Remember i had my car only now for the Last two years bought it on 110K.

So the guy that used the car drove like a D@#$%. The E90's do not have Turbo problems.

Before you go buy check the car out good. and take someone with that is knowledgeable in this regard and knows what to look at.

The E90's is really reliable. And all my car would have cost me was R4K for services in the last two years Including Labor and all if it was not for the Clutch.

It was just my stroke of Bad luck and there is nothing you could do about it.

I would never Sell my diesel again. She has really been good to me. No Issues

Just add NF Diesel Boost to the 3 rd Tank of Diesel and you will rarly have injector problems.

where do you take your car because i bought bmw e46 in 2011 on 240k odo i almost spend more than 20k on it and now is on 273k odo and i spend R3600 last MONTH and still my problem is not solved so i need a RELIABLE MECHANIC SOMEBODY WHO WILL NOT EAT MY CAR PARTS AND WHO DOESNT TAKE CHANCES.

Info on 320ds are in sig. Only regular services. And on my old 320d the door actuator failed (common problem).

Also have a look at your caps lock key, me thinks the actuator is stuck in the activated position and giving the impression you are in a far away place and you have to shout in order for us to take note :D

Had to let the diesel go today for R17k. :yuck: would have cost R55K to repair it and thats just not worth it.

What did the turbo replacement cost you ? Was it only the turbo or did you do boost pipes and intercooler as well ?
