discussion High Flow Catted Downpipe install on 2019 m240i

Hi Gents

New here and looking for some advice on the below points for my 2019 m240i stock( only M-performance back box ) any pointers and tips of advice will be appreciated :

1. Looking to install a high flow catted downpipe (themodsshop ) have in stock its quite pricey @ R11k

with regards to the above do i have to do a stage 2 tune ? if so between MHD and Bootmod any preferred 1 ?

if i go the MHD route do i need a tuner to do the tuning ie (dyno and road testing ) or do the OTS files pre-configured are already tested and safe to apply via WiFI adapter ?

anyone currently have the same setup on their car ? i am in DURBAN and looking to have a downpipe done after hearing how a high quality downpipe can improve performance and fuel efficiency without any drastic modifications that can potentially do more harm than good

so i guess my question is installing a highflow DP a safe and reliable mod

Hi,

Is there any reason you opting for a catted downpipe as opposed to a cat less? The main objective of the downpipe is to enable the exhaust gasses to escape without restriction and keep the EGT's low. We don't have emissions testing in here so kind of pointless to go for a catted downpipe.

The achilees heal of the Gen 1 B58 is the HPFP. Having done a few hundred of these I'd suggest upgrading the pump to the TU/Gen 2 pump for long term reliability and peace of mind.

The gearboxes on these are also only rated for 510nm, so the XHP Gearbox flash is highly recommended.

Spark plugs are also an important component when modding, it's recommended to upgrade to the Two step colder plugs and check the coil packs while you at it to avoid any necessary misfires.

With regards to tuning, MHD is a great tuning suite, we tune a lot of these remotely in the world via MHD. Whether to opt to run the OTS map or to go for a custom map its always advisable to dyno and datalog the car and have someone knowledgeable check it out. The OTS map are generic and no two cars are the same.

If you take short cuts and do things the wrong way it's very easy to crack a piston on a B58.

Hi thank you for your reply 🙏🏻, not sure how you pm on here this is the first time I’ve done a thread 🫠… is it possible to tune just for the DP ? I was leaning towards catted as I read decatted would throw CEL’s and I don’t want to install cat foolers or any additional hardware my intention is to keep the car as close to stock as possible but just to have it sound a little more deeper and raspier and hopefully get it to breathe better and be more fuel efficient even if it’s slightly more lighter

I had MHD on my S55 for some time. Decided to remove the cats, replaces with resonated downpipes (ARM) and resonators in place of secondary cats. I didn’t want any rasp - for me personally that is the least OEM sound you can get and if you are going for that then add a flash and have the performance to go with the sound.

My default maps is Stage 0+ (CS) as I don’t like the aggressive mid range punch of the stage 1 and 2 maps, which do not feel OEM. I haven’t even tested the car with stage 1 or stage 2 since I deletes the cats.

MHD, Bootmod, etc. will not throw CEL.

You are in good hands with Xcede - make sure you know what you want.

Thank you bud 🙂 yeah I’m leaning towards excede and will make contact with them in the coming weeks once I’m ready to pull the trigger
