Hmm why would it be illegal if some cars come out of the factory with it....?

Not sure if illegal by law but should be is HID in non project headlights.

Non-projected HID's piss me off. Hate them, light is scattered everywhere. HID's are fine, but do them properly :bangdesk:

Whether it being illegal or not, I'm not sure. SAB approved ones should be fine IMHO - as long as they have a proper projector kit attached.
Monday morning rant over :)

non SABS approved will surely make them illegal (I am of course assuming that OEM HID projectors are indeed SABS approved)

Normally I don't have a problem with these, one can see thay are brighter but seeing as around here they are usually 8000K HID's they look more silly than bright.

The exception is citi golofs with those crystal lens headlamps fitted with HID's which is about as retarded as you can get. There is about a gazillion lumens up to three feet in front of the car and then it's dark.

Personally I prefer the warmer colour temperature lights - these almost blue cold lights don't do it for me really. For instance, those Osram energy saver bulbs with the light sensor for outside lights, annoys me that most places only have the cool white and not the warm white which for me looks so much better!!! Same with fluorescent tubes...

The warmer colours are brighter as well. They start at 3000K (Halogen color) the brightest and as you move towards purple the lumen output drops quite a lot till 12000K which is not very bright at all.

I have some solar panels and random solar lighting at home, HID's are so efficient, cheap and long lasting I'm using some for high powered lighting. Usually 4300K which is a very pleasant colour closest to sunlight.
