Hidden instrument test

On Sunday I found this on my car and yesterday I searched and found a few videos on Youtube showing how it is done. Now I know some cars come out std with it, so why not BMW?

How to perform the instrument cluster test via OBD

1. Press and hold trip reset button.
2. Still holding that button, insert the key.
3. When the display shows ' 01._ _ ', let go of the button.
4. Without waiting, quickly tap the button one time, ' 02._ _ KI TEST ' should appear.
4.1. But if you were too slow, it will display ' 01.00 ' instead. Don't worry, just hold the button until it shows as in 3.
5. When the display shows as in 4., hold the button for 1 second and then release, you'll see ' 02.00 '.
6. Tap it one time.
7. ???
8. PROFIT!!!

Yeah, I also found a video on the tube before to check my E60 cluster. This has been around since the E36 already (that I know of)

I really like that some cars do this as standard. I think it is an awesome way for the car to say good morning or hello.

I wish it was standard start-up feature on the BMW.

That would be both frightening and cool ... certain red lights on the dash just trigger a small heart attack :fencelook:

IIRC, the Lexus IS has both needles (rev and speedo) sweep across on startup, which looks pretty cool.

You can just activate the airbags for support until the medics get to you.
