Ok, I know I'm in for a bit of stick here:rollsmile:
Our BM's have gearboxes and transfer boxes made by ZF- right? Merc's gearboxes also made by ZF, therefore, Jeep (which I believe have merc motors and boxes..........
Anyone following my thinking here???

If I change out my gear/transfer box maybe I can fit a ZF box with hi/low range incorporated in the transfer box?

Fit the pump up air suspension....
I'll have an unstoppable 4x4

Any comments so far?:=)::=)::=):
The X3 has two major drawbacks as a serious 4x4:-
Ground clearance & no hi/low range:cry:
Ps I love my X3 :inlove:

with open diffs all around you'd get 'stopped' sooner than you think.:rollsmile: The clutch isn't up to the task either.
I think the clearance is quite adequate.
Now if you were to do the fall conversion as the Syncro , that would go anywhere. Or buy a Discovery:fencelook:

It would be cheaper to buy a Jeep than do the conversion. After the conversion you would still have a crap offroad vehicle... just with low range.

Not all Jeeps have Merc engines and gearboxes.

I suppose it is possible. I actually recall it being done, but I heard of this a long time ago, so don't have details nor can I confirm if it's fact.

Have you driven a LR Disco 4? Rather buy a Landy or a Jeep or a Toyota.
