ex e36 316 owner here! There are one or two regular members who have 316s if my memory serves me correct! No stress though....316i are still nice cars in my books. I loved mine till the day I sold her and still miss her at times!

lol. thanks guys...
the story is that i used to be a HUGE JAP fan, till about two years ago...had a prelude when my wife fell pregnant so the start for a bigger car began. Initially looked around for a ballade vtec but coouldnt find one, then about two weeks before my wife was due my cousing sold me this bm for R19k, i took it and cant say i ever looked back!!
just have a problem now with my water pump leaking, first "big" problem in two years...

yeah, i can now say that my next car will without a doubt be a BMW...

made an agreement with my wife for us to buy a house then upgrade to an e46 330.
so we found the house we want so hopefully soon it will all fall into place :)

Your gonna love that 330, I can tell ya that right now.

Look at the 330d as well, slower but much more torque

i came close to buying a 328 e46 but the house story popped up so left it...

330d you say...hmmm...never really occured to me.
is the D heavy on maintanence?

Maint are about the same provided you look after your turbo.

Make no mistake, if the turbo pops, its going to hurt, but I am a firm believer in that a turbo behaves like its being treated, and on the late models they are pretty sorted.

Other thing is the auto boxes on the high spec diesels take more abuse then standard due to the higher torque.

Service it, remove the swirl flaps, change the gearbox oil, and they are reliable as hell, these cars can die at 130k on the clock or 330k.

Do some reading, I am a turbo/torque junky so perhaps I am a bit biast on this topic, research and decide for yourself, but take one for a test drive.

hey the 316 is a good car!! i also have the e36 shape! plus u alreadi have the looks lol. it may not be a m3, but its a BM! i was a huge golf fan before, still have respect for em though, but after owning my first bm... hmmm  still like the golf 1s though lol. (please dont kill me guys lol)

n zaleonardz... the 330d in my opinion is the best bet!! its not as heavy on fuel and the power is fckn amazing! i went for a ride in one the other day! as far as the maintenance... like you heard.. take care of the turbo lol. apart from that it should be good if you take care of her! you'l love it!! oh and congrads on the house!
