Hello there folks, Its my first time on the forum and for a genuine reason..

I want to ask about a car im going to view at the weekend. Its a 2013 320d m sport with 80k miles. I figure its alot of miles for 5 years. It also has full service history but was serviced every 20k.

Now ive been reading up on these timing chain failures that BMW seem to have. Do these still occur on 2013 models? And what else should I be looking out for. Car looks immaculate other than that. I can get some photos if needed.

Thanks

Go to BMW and run the vin, then ask if there is any outstanding campaigns on the car, also ask to see if the car has been serviced on time and if the timing chain has been done.

I think the mileage is quite acceptable for the year model.

2 Things that stand out for me:

1. these cars are supposed to be serviced every 15 000km, and not 20 000km. Why was this car serviced every 20 000km? With the age, and mileage I am sure BMW motorplan expired recently, so there should be a report available detailing what was done under plan. Get it, and if anything looks out of order (ie: plan was suspended because the owner didn't bring the car for services in due time) walk away.

2. Those rims do not look standard. When ever I see something non OEM on a car, I wonder what else has been done (software, downpipe, aftermarket exhaust etc)

Not sure when a sunroof became the alfa and omega? Imm much rather trade a sunroof for functional extra's, such as PDC, xenon headlights, idrive etc.

Different strokes I suppose, IMM usually when a car has a sunroof especially bmw / audi etc its usually better specced than those without - but I get your point.

As for the example above - I wouldnt touch it with a 10 foot pole but again thats just me - No Sunroof, after market rims etc

according to your last pic the car is on 94 000km already?

Are you referring to miles in your original post, or Km? I realize you are not from SA (judging by the numberplate), here we use km.

:dunnoanymore: Guys he is in Ireland, therefore mile, and dont bother about Motorplans as its not the same in Europe as it is in South Africa, and things like mag wheels are not an issue there - and sunroofs well there is very little point to having a sunroof where there is not that much use for it.

Ok @C_msport my opinion or my 2 pence :smilebounce:, I think the car looks great and it appears service was kept up, and Im certain MOT is all in order - the miles are relative to where the original owner lives compared to where he worked - I personally dont think its much at all.

Get an AA report - the guys at AA are very sharp in Europe and Uk they will give you piece of mind.

Looks very nice and clean:thumbs:

Thanks Mike Yes I am in Northern Ireland so sunroof is basically useless with the weather here. There is a full years MOT on the car now. Wheels dont really matter to me either as il more than likely change them anyway. Its the mechanical aspects that matter and as long as its got full history and oil etc has been changed then I suppose its got what it needs.

I will go have a look at the car, drive it and see how it feels.

And with regards to the AA, do I just contact them and give the reg? Or VIN?

Thanks again.

Full MOT so then it was done recent and they would have picked up any funnies going on also.

contact AA Im certain like in the UK they have a rep that will pop by the seller and do the necessary.
There will be costs involved, but well worth it for peace of mind..
