Help with Fault Codes on a 320d E90

Hi guys, I recently took my 2005 e90 320d to my mechanic to clear the passenger airbag and seat belt error. We also picked up 9 Engine Related errors.

4 of them were for the Glow Plugs, in all 4 cylinders, that doesn't worry me too much as they likely actually do need replacing.

The following one doesn't worry me too much either as I recently disconnected the vacuum line from the EGR and started the car for whatever stupid reason. I reconnected it straightaway.
4501 Exhaust-gas Recirculation

The following codes do worry me however:
4C03 Message (Cruise Control/ACC, 0x194) defective, receiver DDE, transmitter
ACC / DSC / SZL / LWS

3F40 Rail pressure sensor offset test

And the grand finale:

44CC Charge-air pressure actuator

Also had an error related to the Intelligent Battery sensor, neglected to write down the specific code.

I will check later today to see if the Intelligent Battery Sensor is plugged in or not.

I will go back to my mechanic as soon as possible to see which of the cleared codes have come back again. The airbag and seatbelt lights are back on but I think that is to do with my car standing in the sun all day, maybe changing the resistance of the wires in the wiring housing under the seat.

My alternator pulley is making a hell of a noise as well, not sure if that could be having an effect on any of the errors. Wanting to replace it and the belt soon.

I can't tell if my car is underboosting or if it's just in my head since I saw the turbo actuator error but if feels decidedly different after I saw the scan results.

I know that I should just get my car booked in as soon as possible I am just posting this in case someone has had these specific errors before and maybe it was caused by something silly like a dirty MAP sensor and not the actual electronic actuator being buggered :thumbdo:

First dont let this get you down. What happens is that if the car doesnt see a diagnostic tool the whole time then it will log codes (even though it is fixed afterwards) and they will stay in the computer's ecu till they are cleared with the right tools.

So go back to the mechanic and ask him to redo the diagnostics and see what returned. Those 4 codes could be from one error that escalates to the rest, example if your steering wheel sensor (yes there is one on the steering wheel, stupid BMW engineers trying to tell you that you going straight) gets dirty or damaged,

you will get 4 codes,
Steering angle sensor error
Hill assist inactive
DSC inactive
Cruise control wont work ,also gets an error

By just this one sensor, and there is 5 of these (one for each wheel and the steering) that could cause this error to come up. So dont worry and see if you can pin point the actual initial error, it will clear the rest.

But for now, just go back to the mechanic and let me diagnose it again. The turbo pipes could have had a leak and cause those errors and even a low battery, the person before you most probably didnt clear the errors from the car.

Let us know the new error's or the ones that came back. And PS: Glow plugs ALWAYS comes up, replace it only when you having problems with the starting of the car, otherwise you will waste money as the errors for the glow plugs will just return on the next diagnostics

Thanks I appreciate the feedback guys.

I have had steering angle sensor problems before. Usually I just do full lock left and right and restart the car. Yes thank you I know the codes get stored, for some reason I thought the Engine ones were new, but thinking back I think two weeks ago when we were doing diagnostics we probably only cleared the airbag one. Not even going into the engine codes.

Good to hear that the glow plugs are always complaining, because they have done before, a new battery made it go away though.

So thanks guys, I know that I need to go back for diagnostics to see what comes back. It's just frustrating sitting at work and not knowing whether you've just got a boost leak or a faulty turbo actuator, or if the car is just complaining about 9 things because one small thing is wrong. Thanks guys
