So my wife's daily (And my weekender) is a very neat 2007 E90 320i MSport

Pros
Good looks
Comfortable
Good handling
Good fuel consumption
Service and maintenance wasn't too bad
Everything works and the car feels tight and responsive

Cons
Its getting close to 160 000km
Its going to be 7 years old soon

So I would like to replace it. My plan was to replace it with a diesel fortuner. We test drove one and she complained that it felt like a van and was no where near as comfortable as her 320i

So what are my options here?
I need something less than 5 years old less than 100 000km and all for less than R200 000

It needs to be good looking, comfortable, reliable, cheap to maintain and have a decent fuel economy?

She has got it in her head that once you go BMW you cant go back. Me I don't have a preference for a particular brand. I go for the Value for money options.

So 5 series, X3?

Fortuners have a tendency to play "roll over"

Yeah I have a friend who rolled on :nonono:. Driving to fast and swerved for a buck. I would have plowed that thing down.

X5 - Higher mileage

I take it you want a bigger car?

If you're look at the 5 series you need to ask yourself if you think it looks good. Alot of people hate the look of the E60.

If it were my money I would buy an E90 330d.

"Trade is R280 000 and Retail is R320 000" Thats according to the add. Maybe there's something wrong with it. But the 3.0d engine is solid.

Oops thought it was a D. Well the 3.0s seem to last aswell...? Not sure with an X5 hauling that huge body around though. It's a good looking car though I love the E70s.

Fortuner is a very good vehicle, excellent value for money and holds a brilliant resale value, plus the reliable and damn strong vehicles. My last Hilux D/C I sold was 2 years old with 32000km and only lost R15k on it.
I have owned a couple of D/C Hiluxes which is basically the same vehicle, rollovers have been sorted as newer ones are fitted with traction controls which make a world of difference and the wheels are now bigger as well 17". My 2007 Hilux which had 15" wheels I changed to 17" Prado Wheels, which transformed its handling, my 2011 Hilux had traction control and 17" wheels standard, nothing wrong with handling, bearing in mind you can't take corners in at the same speed you would with an M3!!!
The other problem is Theft, they notorious, but bear in mind they most sold SUV/bakkie in SA, so naturally their theft figures will be higher!
Your wife says it rides like a bakkie which it does, so your next bet is the Prado, only problem is new they R700, 3 or 4 year old 150 model(current shape) us about R500k, even the previous shape (120 model) you going yo battle to find between R200 & R250 k and that's a high mileage vehicle that's 8 years old.
I have a 150 VX Diesel, it's comfortable, luxurious, and one hell of a 4x4, it comes standard with a fridge, NAV, rear air suspension, crawl control, even my 3rd row of seats is electrically powered to fold an unfold them, plus it makes the wife happy as it's her daily vehicle, lots of space for prams shopping etc.

So I'm also a big Toyota fan, but you must check out your options there are lots of vehicles out there best thing is to put you bum in the seat and try them out
