Help. Service lights

Hi all

Need some help. Took my car to Northcliff auto this past weekend to do an oil service.
This morning when I started up I noticed a message on the instrumentcluster saying "service"

Being a bright spark I googled how to reset the service light and went down now to try.

Tried the reset and now have the service message followed by a red car on lift icon. Tried to reset all service settings but this does not go away. Only thing I have managed to do is reset all the dates

Please can someone tell me what to do to sort this out.. I am stressing.

Ps. I know the rear breakpad needs to be changed in about 4000km. Can this be the cause?
Btw. Car is a 2007 325I (pre lci e90)

Thanks in advance

Just to add... I have a Bluetooth elm device with torque pro... And it does not pick up any faults.

That is an inspection light.

Do you have the idrive or just the standard flat dash model?

Your brake pad sensor in the rear left fender where it is connected into the brake pad is maybe damaged. Just check that out and see if it isn't damaged.

My friend, 320d 2006 E90 model, had that light and it was due to a brake pad sensor that was broken.

Light will go out once you have replaced that sensor, if it is damaged.

Flat dash... No idrive

Brake pads do need to be replaced... Just wondering if that is the cause... If so I can stress a little less.

Will replace pads in the next month

Think it is definitely that if you don't get errors.

Just be advised that you will need to buy the sensor also to replace otherwise the light will stay.

If you tried to reset it and it didn't reset then it should be that.

If you want to be sure and confident then get a person with diagnostic software to inspect the code for you. It will not show on your dash but the code is saved, trust me.

I buy mine from bemow in Pretoria west or from bmw itself, depends on how I feel. But it costs between R700 and R1400 for the pads, front and rear. And the sensor is like R150 - R200

Why you don't try ratslaaf@obdworx (Gert) on the forum, he is from Boksburg. He is selling the brakes for R790, not a bad price and it is definitely the right ones (he is like a perfectionist on the bmw's). Check the link below, if you stay close to Boksburg. But remember to buy the sensor also.
