Help: Rear Wheel Stuck

Hi Fanatics,
Need some advice on this.
My wife has a 2011 E82 120d Auto, strange thing happened yesterday. When selecting reverse, the car refuses to move. We tried giving it some gas and it moved slightly but with a heavy metal clunk sound. I got her to try and move it while I get a closer inspection on the wheel and it refused to move, the wheel is completely locked. To try and describe this better, you know when you have the handbrake up and try to reverse, the car feels like its lifting up but not moving anywhere.

We called the insurance to see if we can get it towed to a friends workshop but they sent a flatbed which would be impossible to get the car onto. The towtruck company suggested a piggyback but we waiting to see if the insurance will cover.

Anyone experienced this sort of issue previously? I know it could be a number of things wrong but just wanted to see if someone else experienced this before.

Was the car washed or driven in heavy rain before it was parked?

It could be that a brake pad is binding. Usually it will let go, but you will have to try and reverse and move forward a couple of times. Please be careful as the car might move suddenly if the brake let go.

Not saying it is the issue, but it happened to me a couple of times.

Thank you for the response. Funny enough, the car was driven in heavy rain on Friday, then it was washed on Saturday and then parked off.
I am going to give this a try and see if that helps resolve it.

Try just to disengage the handbrake mechanism inside the cabin ( if you do believe its handbrake binding ) . there are plenty of vides on youtube that show you how to do it with simple tools . Also try to jack both rear wheels off to see if the wheels get unstuck using only your hands instead of causing irreversible mechanical damage

Thanks for the advice @NBN , I tried @Swiegie advice and that seemed to resolve the issue, drove the car around the block and all seems fine. I still booked it in with the workshop for them to inspect to be on the safe side.

I learnt the hard way to always drive my cars just a little after washing it, especially if i know it is not going to be driven within the next day. I would turn the car in my yard and it usually is enough to clean off the disks and pads.

To be honest, I never really knew this was an issue until now. You learn something new everyday.
