Help reading codes in the Midrand area

Hi Gents

I’m in need of someone that can assist with reading codes on my wifes e90 323i.

The car is not drivable, it had its tappet cover gasket recently replaced, but now has a very bad idle.

Phyper13 usually helps me out but he’s away on work. If anyone in the Midrand area can assist that would be great.

Remove one coil at a time while the car is running you should hear a drop in revs, if you do not hear one it could be a shot coil, swap the shot coil with a working one and try again maybe just a coil.

If you have a N46 motor, coils are very common?

Its most likely the valvetronic motor, or a sticky vanos solenoid.

So I'm, leaning towards either a Solenoid, Valvetronic motor or the Eccentric sensor.

But reading the codes would be my best first step.

Update

So Phypher13 came over today to help read the codes. Turned out to be the outlet vanos solenoid. We pulled both solenoids and gave them a clean. Fitted them back in, cleared the codes. First time startup no issues. I drove the car to gym and back home, no problem.
