So i was just cleaning around the engine and noticed the black bmw plugs cover was dirty s took it out , then said might as well just pop of the leads and see.... The first 2 had a film of oil on the leads but the last two where bone dry. Then i took out the spark plugs to have a look and same story it had oil on the first 2, there was even some oil in the tube the spark plug sits in. The electrode part of the plug didnt seem to have oil on it but it was quite blacken....Now should i be worried? Is there gna be a big bill in my future? :fencelook:

thanx for the help guys, just wondering , is this amount of oil typical of a valve cover gasket failing? These are the first and second plugs, the other 2 were fine.

had same prob on my 318is e36 a few years back..alota oil on one plug..rest dry..can cause misfiring on that plug as well i think..just replace your gasket seals and it'l all be ok :)..easy and inexpensive..GL :)

The oil that leaks into the spark plug hole gets on the plug when you unscrew the plug . I normally push a rag down with a screwdriver to absord as much oil as possible .
Good luck .

Remove the covers , take out the coils and then take off the tappet cover ( and any pipe connection that may be there-do not know the 4 cyl ) ...all will be revealed . remove gasket , clean surfaces and fit new gasket . I do not use silicone etc.....bmw factory did not !!

Dont worry its a mission taking all the nuts and bolts off , but not a technically difficult job .
