Help needed with IMPORT DUTY code

This may be useful http://www.sars.gov.za/home.asp?pid=175
Have you imported something before hand this year that Customs have picked up on by any chance? I know you're allocated a certain amount of items allowed into the country.

Are these parts new or second hand?

Your courier company has a general importers code. If you're still having issues you can give a freight forwarding agent a shout and see what the options are.

When importing, always have the company you buying from put 2 invoices with the commercial invoice. 1 the items and 1 the shipping.else customs will be calculated on the total amount. They always do that.
We import regularly. Pity I only logged on today else would have assisted.

I think I realize my mistake this time, if the order goes above R20k then the rules change.

Will try and sort it out today, will let you guys know, but the obvious thing to do is to register as a importer for the future.

this is how i understood it too.. large amounts brings a flag up, since you might be importing for resale..

Eventually..! Yesterday got a phone call to say that Customs had fined me because I dared to import without an import code, so paid another R500 and eventually today the parcels were cleared for release, picked it up tonight at 20:00 and tomorrow I can continue to assemble everything, lots of shiny parts..;)
