Hi Guys

Just need some advice from the diesel fanatics.

I want to buy a bmw 330d E90 160000km Auto

Are there any problems on this car with so much km on?
What are common faults on these cars with so much km on?
What must i check before buying a bmw with so much km on?
Will i get some problems with this car with so much km on?

The garage want to offer me a 2 year unlimited km warranty.

I drive 20k km a year, so in 5 years i the car should do around 300000km.

Any advise please let me know.

Kind Regards
Anton

Do your research on the cars history.

These cars are pretty reliable. If you can see what has been done under Motorplan, and get a full service history you will be able to make a more informed decision.

You can have a tuned 330d with 300000km on, and not have issues, or you can have a 330d with 150 000km on and need to soon replace the turbo.

It all depends how the car was and is being looked after, does is get a cool down period before switching off after hard driving etc.

The Auto boxes on the E90 is a great improvement from the E46, and even Tuned Diesels pushing in excess of 600NM at the wheels dont easily give transmission issues.

With the Diesel engine, the auto is the best compliment.

Vibration Dampner pulley`s seem to go, from what I`ve read, as mine is still on the original part at 144 000km`s on. They are not too pricey, but labour seem to be the bigger expense. (pulley is around R3k)

Then normal service parts that I`m not going to list, but they`re not ridiculously expensive.

If you run into injector issues, they could set you back a couple of thousand, probably around R10k, I stand to be corrected.

Look at what they offer with the warranty, maybe even get quotes from other third party Warranty providers for comparison.

They are very reliable cars if they just get the little attention they need, and I cant see much catastrophically going wrong in 300 000KM as long as the car is and have being cared for.

My 07 330d is on 173 xxxkm and counting. I bought it at 12x xxxkm. Since then, i replaced the following:
Crankshaft Dampner
Injectors
GlowPlugs - Didnt need to but did it anyway!
This is over and above the usual servicing.

What are common faults on these cars with so much km on?
Crankshaft Dampner
Injectors

What must i check before buying a bmw with so much km on?
Check overall condition.
Service History
Get the VIN number and call BMW to find out if there are any comments listed.
Take it for a drive, feel for uneasy gear changes. Listen for any abnormal sounds.

Will i get some problems with this car with so much km on?
Nobody will be able to predict the future, however it all depends on the past of that vehicle. If the previous owner was anything like many of us Fanatics, the car will be the best buy you have made.

The E90 330d's are fairly well built. They are far less problematic than some other BMW models. The engines are strong and built to last. The weakness lies in the gearbox to an extent and well, as with any Turbo car, the Turbo. However, i have seen a E90 330d with mods, running around with over 280 000km. Turbo replaced once. I would say that pretty strong for something inevitable.

On the note of the Warranty, do it... I took out the 2 year unlimited KM as well when i bought my car, saved me lots as the parts i replaced are expensive. I am going to renew the warranty, it ends December this year.

Good luck with your buy!

Which warranty did you go with Arbee? When i was deciding on a warranty, all of them said no mods at all and would not pay out for consequential damage.
