Help me choose my first BMW

It looks quite good from the pics, has some good extras too. the price is good as well.

Being the Facelift i believe it should be the 135kw model, if not BMW is able to update software. One should check the service history for anything out the ordinary. Mileage might a bit high, so depending how much mileage yo will be doing, consider how long the MP will last. Extending kms is expensive.

I have a similar car. It is 135kW. Price seems good. Offer 200k, he will probably take it. You will not be sorry.

0-100 in 7,5 sec.

Max Speed 235 km/h (true speed at sea level...indicated will be about 250)

Claimed consumption is 4,5 l/100 km, but in the real world you get around 5,3-5,7 for normal driving, 5,8-6,5 for spirited driving and 6,5-7,5 if you drive like a maniac.

This the most well balanced car on the road. You will have power a plenty. All you would ever require for any type of driving, plus a healthy bit extra. Added to that you will have almost unbelievable economy. 1000km/tank normal day-day driving.

Sounds like a good deal then, i would obviously try to negotiate a bit also

I would not be extending motorplan but my only concern now is whether this would be as good an option as a 30d regarding reliability and servicing the car myself. I do not trust the dealers or service agents and hence do all services and repairs on all my cars by myself...then i have peace of mind that no shortcuts have been taken

All I can say is that I have had no issues to date. And as far as I know the E90 turbos are a lot more reliable than previous models. So if you were to go turbo-diesel, a good clean E90 is the way to go.

Maybe some more experienced people can post here whether is is better to go for an older naturally aspirated 330d. Which I don't think is a bad idea. The only down-side is that the older 330d will give you similar (a bit more torque) power, but not anywhere near the economy of a E90 320d.

No such thing :fencelook:

On the note of reliability, there is an E46 330d on the forum with over 400 000kms and still on the original turbo

Ah, thanks for clearing that up (I sort-of got that impression from some other posts). In that case, I think an E90 320d should be every bit as reliable as the 330d. Personally, I would go for that.

E46 330d is an awesome car, I also have one  I have driven a E90 320d and prefer my E46 over it. if you were to go for an E90 330d thats a different league

I have driven a E90 320d and prefer my E46 over it.

I can understand why. The bigger engine will give a "feel" that the little 2 litre can just not replicate, no matter how good it is.

But one should keep in mind that if he gets an E90 it will probably be newer. And it will be a lot lighter on fuel. I understand that the E46 is also great on consumption for the torque it delivers. But it gets nowhere near the E90 320d in that regard. And I get the impression that economy is fairly important to OP.

if you were to go for an E90 330d thats a different league

Indeed, but I doubt that is in the budget here... :)
