HELP IT SOUNDS LIKE A DIESEL!!!!!!!!!

I need some help please!!!!!!!!! I'v got a 2005 118i (e87) and resently it started to sound like a diesel. Now i read in the internet that it is a commen problem with bmw's and many even say that it is normal? should i take it to the dealer to have it fixed because it is driving me mad ? there are so may people that took theirs in and it sounded just the same as before and many dealers say that it is normal and it sound like that . what is it that causes it to sound like that? has anybody had the same problem and what dit you do to fix it please!!!
