HELP, Has anyone had this before?

Hi Guys,
Suddenly, after a major service today, my auto level and manual headlight level adjustment isn't working! The lights just point to the road! When I switch the car and lights on I hear the level adjuster motors doing their thing going up and down but the lights do not move. Same applies when I slide the level adjuster wheel up or down, I hear the motors but the lights just don't move. They cleaned the engine when they serviced the car and I can see some moisture drops on the inside of the headlights that never used to be there. Could this be causing it or is there perhaps a fuse or something I can check. Any input appreciated, sux big time driving like this!

Thanks!

if you can hear the motor, then this rules out the electrical portion of your problem

what remains is the mechanical linkage between the electrical motor and the actual headlight, might have become dislodged, or worse broken a linkage or stripped a gear tooth

Perhaps, but both at the same time? Its very strange, car was fine yesterday. There is also a strange buzzing noise emanating from the engine bay when I turn the ignition on. Its not major loud, but I could hear it from inside the car with the radio and engine off while the ignition was on,. It goes off after 5 seconds of the key being removed from the ignition. Hope my super great and equally expensive German mechanic didn't fry something :fencelook:

i've got the same problem on my X5, only problem is mine is linked too the self leveling air suspension.

My suspension is acting up, so im thinking this is my cause of problem.

Going too try and recalibrate the ride height settings, hopefully this will solve my problem.

With regards too yours, check the linkages too the lights. And dont underestimate the motors giving false sounds in the lights!

Have you had a diagnostics done too check for fault codes.

Hope you come right.

Thanks! Nope, no diag done yet, just picked the car up 3 hours ago and noticed the light issue while picking up take away pizza.

Well the right hand side light seems to have revived itself somehow. It now auto adjusts and moves with the adjustment wheel. Working on the left.

Awesome, thanks to burning the midnight at work last night I took the day off today. Managed to get the headlight issue sorted with some help from Sankekur's post
, a youtube vid
and some common sense. Seems the stepper motor adjuster arm was stuck, worked it a bit and it came loose, lights auto leveling like a dream now!
