Hey guys,

Need some help...Can someone please confirm for me if they have noises coming from the dash, passenger side from near or around the cubby that sounds like a fan noise?

Yesterday after a trip to parys my car started making that whirring sound that a PC fan makes when it's hauling ass.

It's just a constant fan humming noise, and I'm assuming it's normal.Aircon and fans were switched to off by the way.

Is this normal, and if not, what do you suspect it could be?

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Not normal. Have it checked.

Could be a couple of things:

1. The DVs may have come loose so it is sucking in air.
2. If you have stock air intake perhaps there is a leak/crack....not normal.
3. If you have dual cones than the sound is due to the open intake sucking in air...normal.
4. Chargepipe on the front near the intercooler side could be cracked...weak spot in the charge pipe...the sound could be the leak.
5. Or anything else...Have it checked.

I haven't really had a chance to check the engine bay...
I have(being bored at work) checked on realOEM to see what goes behind the cubby and initial indications show no fans :fencelook:

So either some hissing snake crawled into my cubby while in Parys...or something from the engine bay is making a noise...(leaky air intake or some such)

Further investigation needed (like is the fan noise there if just on AUX without the engine running)

Lunch time awaits...

Tx Twinz,

No cones, all should be factory...

I'll drive by Cedar BMW on the way home for a quick check...
The need to check a squeeky left front wheel anyways...

Change the CD in the Radio. Our Mk6 GTI does that if you put a cd which is not balanced in the player, ie a copied cd or one which a lot of printing on the disc itself. Like a light whirring noise.

Hi everyone.

Firstly - I'm a girl (oh dear...need as much help as possible with this), secondly - I just bought my first BMW, a 2007 E90 320i with approximately 140,000km on the clock.

All is well with the car except that lately I've been hearing an on and off purring sound which seems to be coming from behind the center a/c vent on the front of my dashboard. Only happens once the car is warmed up...it can get quite loud. It doesn't matter whether I have the vent open or whether I have the aircon on or off, the sound is there to stay.

Please help! I don't want my car to explode or something

Hi Marina,

If you have just bought the vehicle contact the dealership you bought it from and have them sort it out.

If it was a private sale, hopefully on of the guys on here will know whats wrong.

Hope you come right.
