HI Guys

I am new to this forum and thought you guys could assist

As the subject line states I have a E46 330D recently it started missing on idle and take on Take off, when I say Missing the entire vehicle shakes when stationary. I was under the impression it was an injector as I checked all ,when I remove number 2 injector there seems no change at all .Number 2 Injector was replaced and car is doing exactly the same?

Any advise would be much appreciated.

Maybe a wiring issue. I'd say get a diagnostics done first before you start paying for more parts. The ECU is quite well though out, and can detect and report most failure modes with the right software.

What is your mileage?

Tried to get it Diagnosd at Bosch they did not pickup anything mileage sitting @ 190K

Then I doubt they have the correct diagnostics machines, or the operator might not know what he is doing. You should see injector trim levels go outside plausible range on this occurrence. Also possibly an error. There is a possibility that your car swallowed a swirl flap, but we will continue hoping that that is not the case...

Not an expert on this, but have a look at the history of the faults too. My car went in to BMW for a rough idle. The idiots cleared all the faults and did a diagnostics and all was clear. They said rough idle was normal when cold :cursin:

I used the car for a month then took it elsewhere (Tunetech). They checked the fault history and 2 injectors were intermittently causing issues, even though the faults were not "active" when they tested. They cleaned both injectors and the rough idle was sorted.

Hence, it seems that maybe Bosch only looked at active faults and it may seem fine. Just my speculation - not an expert on this.

where are you located kev? like p1000 said, you need to have the injector trims checked in real time before you spend any more. if the trims are fine, its unlikely that the roug idle is injector related..

as for the trim flap issue, these are situated in the inlet track, and on rare occasions a flap might come loose and get swallowed by the engine, causing damage to the cylinder involved, which might cause a rough idle (valves damaged)

Kev,

If your willing to travel out to me in randburg one evening (at my offices), I will be glad to see if I can help you out with the diagnostics.

Crux is, even if there was a swirl issue, There should be a noticable change if you plug in the injector or not, unless you have lost complete compression on the cylinder, and then you would have other issues, not just idle and pulloff..

How is the power at 3,500 rpm ?

Thanks Bud

Once the car has gotten momentum it's fine,Actually runs normally only on idle and take off other than than you woudl not say theres an issue otherthan the black smoke when gassing it...

then chances of a cylinder going poof is not that great.

I agree with the other gents, its prob an injector firing command that is either not being sent (damaged ECU) or a wire issue.

Let me just get this straight, the car idles the same with the injector (electrical) plugged in or not, and you have replaced the injector.

Have you looked at a vacuum leak ?

I have proper diag equipment, come past and let me see if I can point you in the right direction.

I had a 320d that did the same. Was caused by faulty injectors, replaced them and all was fine.

I spoke to a few guys and they said its best to replace or recon all injectors every 150k kms.

I keep maintaining, on a diesel, all you need to do is

100k on the clock, take out the turbo and have it serviced
120k to 150k have the injectors profesionally cleaned...

10k maintanace, and that motor will last forever...

Hi Guys

Hope you all are well, im new to this forum and need some advice on my 2003 330d.

Its has new injectors, all new vacuum pipes.

It is a automatic.

the problem is when I floor it its kinda dead below 2500rpm and then starts to stutter an black smoke, I lift my foot 1cm of the accel and floor it again and all the power is there.

when I put it in 1st and gradually accelerate it feels like something frees up at 2500 rpm and I can feel the power.

any ideas?

Regards
