Hi Chris any idea of a " a faulty suppressor " is and what did it cost to repair / replace if you don't mind.

How many are these of these things too, never heard of them ?

BTW- agrreed I'd replace all the plugs with the same type and the same time given the issues you are having / had !

Hey Charlie. When it comes to suppressors im also not very knowledgeable. I take it there are 6 as they qouted me on the suppressor in cylinder 6. I have no idea what their function is. Maybe someone here with more knowledge on this matter could shed some light.

The parts, which included the faulty suppressor, spark plugs, diagnostic tests and labour came to around R1800 i think.

It's gotta be a coil...

hehehe SP33DYV is watching that coil. Like i said we swopped coil 6 and 1 to see if the car does go into limp mode again. If it does and the error is with number 1 then we know its the coil

Some time ago one of the coils in my Wife's 320i was mucking about with the symptoms being a sort of jerk or flat-spot when accelerating out of a corner, as if you were in too high a gear. Then on one of the test drives to replicate and see what was going on I could smell rich unburnt fuel which told me that one or more cylinders were not firing properly or at all. Had diagnostics run and it seemed to take long for the guys to determine that it was the coil - they did see a misfire code for one of the cylinders but could not determine the cause. They ended up swapping that cylinder's coil with another to see if the misfire fault followed, which it did, problem solved and no more flat-spot...

I think that they are referring to the coilpack as a suppressor. That's all I'm saying.

And yes, they do play up intermittently. I had one that would fire and then stop and then fire and stop under hard acceleration. Drive normally and no problem. Until one day that it stopped working completely. I think my car has had all six replaced twice under MP. Since my MP expired, I only replaced one. Funny thing is it was also no. 6.

Just glad yours are sorted now.

Thats exactly what we are trying to achieve by swopping the 2 coils.

So this morning the car started to "limp" again.
Quick call to Zeemax and they said bring it right in.
Diagnostic machine showed problem in cylinder 1 so now we know its the coil. (Well done SP33DYV!)

Within minutes they replaced the coil. Zaid apologised for the inconvenience and said he just needed to be sure it was the coil before he replaced it. Being the awesome guy that he is he didn't charge me for the new coil.

Big up to Zeemax again!

PS. I heard them talk about the coil and suppressor and as far as i know the suppressor is part of the coil pack. Thus the coil + suppressor = the coil pack

Yep, I think when they say suppressors they are talking about the coils. In the long run makes sense to replace all plugs and I gather if one coil goes, the rest usually follow soon after - well eventually I reckon. Will eventually replace all six on my Wife's car...

Glad they sorted it out, hopefully she behaves now!!

Not necessarily. It's been like 3 years since I replaced a coil. Water is usually the enemy here. I take care to not get too much water on the top of the motor when I wash the engine.

Glad everything is sorted Chris.

Well, almost a year now since I have had that single coil replaced and the others seem to still be fine. Water is a problem, but of course also oil if your valve cover gasket and specifically the gaskets for the plug holes are leaking...
