HELP - BMW ISANDO

hey guys
okay this is what happened

i have my Bmw e90 - 325I for just over 2 months and the vehicle
was due for its service 57 000km (motor plan still active)
so i take the car for the service and when i go to collect the car the passenger side head light is fogged up from the inside.
so i think what the hell it should dry out.
my wife then uses the car the next day and the headlight sign come's up on the dash and the headlight stopped working.

so i go back to Bmw and now they say its my fault that i tampered with the light and i need to pay R7474.00 for the damage as its not their fault.

the thing is i have had my car washed over 10 times from the time of purchase and never had this problem.

now their manager is looking into the matter and cant give me an answer
and the service dept says even if they pay for the light they dont have stock and have to order.:cursin:

Question, why are they claiming damage to the headlight, are there plastic clips or the light itself broken, any cracks from stone chips ect.

If the light got damaged by a stone ect, you need to claim from the insurance.

If there is no visible damage to the light and or clips, it means a seal has failed, and BMW motorplan is responsible.

If there is evidence of a repair, look into the motorplan history to see if that light has been worked on before,

If no evidence of BMW working on it, but there has been a actual repair, you have recourse to the dealer where you baught the car from, as you have a latent defect, and many of the more upmarket second hand dealers will honour your request, or at least halfies.

If you are up the creak without a paddle, I am sure you can get one at a scapyard for a lot less then that.

Auto Alpina is were the car was purchased brand new from
nothing was ever repaired on the car ever
there is no cracks on the headlight or anything
they say its the bracket at the back which was tampered with.

i think maybe a seal as i just spoke to the workshop manager who confirmed that
when doing the service they should have checked that it was either loose or broken before passing the vehicle has ready to go to the car wash for dispatch.

so i am just waiting now has i honestly think its just the globe has the parks work and so
does the brights

My dads 125i is having its tailight seals replaced, apparently there is a defect that causes water to seep into the tail lights and short the parking lights, which then means the whole light cluster has to be changed.
Check with the service manager if there has been a recall on the lights from your cars model. Maybe they are making a mountain out of a mole hill.

I don't mean to be rude, but I don't believe in Peter, but have you called BMW SA and laid a compliant. I know they are not the most helpful bunch at times but its worth a shot.

the manager just called me
according to him the bracket is broken that caused a small hole
he has repaired the bracket and the hole and advised he is not sure how this happened.
so it would have costed them + - R50.00 and the advised me R7474.00

no cost

Had the same problem with my E90 fog-light...got a technician to take a look, seems the bulbs heat made it crack from the inside, so just replaced the whole light and all the other thingamajigs that goes with it....all together got close to 2k just for the small fog-light housing...Got to love warranty & motorplan...

I wouldn't be surprised if they damaged it while working on the car, now see if you DIY and you damage something, at least you know what it is and can take responsibility, but if someone else damages something you don't know about it so it creeps up on you, and is often the case you as the owner still has to take responsibility for it.

Sorry for the rant, I am glad you got it sorted, there are few things as irritating as headlights fogging up.

Dont take this lying down. This is just crap from a dealer. Even while you wait, lay a complaint with BMW customer services S.A. The thing is if we let them get away with small shit like this imagine what they do next time with us when we want our suspensions & engine parts replaced...unacceptable. :hammerhead:

hey wez

thanks guys
they did not give me any paper work for the repair and i just see like some glue substance on the top of the headlight

jip if the damage is on the top of the headlight it could be the mechanic that broke it by leaning against it while working in the engine bay or heat damage from the headlight that had a weak spot. I would get that headlight replaced and force them to repair it. Dont leave it there they make there money and it does not cost them that much for a headlight remember they make 110% profit on parts if not more. I have seen this myself
