Help, Advice please

Hi everyone, I have an X5 2013, lovely car runs well, has a persistent irritating rattle on acceleration only, isnt triggered by speed bumps, doesnt rattle when idling. It sounds like a coin rattling in the ashtray. Rattle seems to come from the gear lever area. Is there anyone who has had something similar, or anyone you suggest I can take it to, to diagnose. BMW Sandton aren't able to fix it, and its very irritating.

Rattles and noises are not easy to resolve but rattling from the transmission area is not uncommon. Since you have pinpointed the source a mech would be able to zoom into that area.

I agree with Twinz. It's also helpful to check if it's a vibration felt on the steering wheel or on tyres.

Take the car to ZF and ask them for advice. Also, could be gearbox mountings although i am doubtful. Could be something as simple as a broken or loose bracket on the exhaust as there are i think two braces on the cat which could be broken . I would get the car up on a ramp or hoist and tap everything in sight with a rubber hammer/mallet to try and source the rattle.

I broken the exhaust bracket right under the gearbox area. I also suggest putting on a lift and checking as it also made the same rattle on acceleration on.
