HELP , 530i Consumption

After a fiasco and disappointing service levels with Mazda SA on my wife's Mazda 5 I am thinking of selling it.

My dilemma is I have a 530i which I bought and never used and have had it at a dealer for 9months to sell. '08 model, sportspack and full house. Only 74000km on the clock and spotless. What is the consumption on everyday driving, more town than long roads. I am considering giving this car to my wife (she is already smiling ear to ear), but if the consumption is hectic I might reconsider. It is a A/T and is the last models with the 200kw engine.

Anyone here have some sort of figures for me? I dont know consumption on the 530i, since I bought it I have only put 500km on it.

My mazda runs at 9.5l/100km, I dont mind a bit of a increase considering I am stepping up to a 3.0l engine, but dont need it to be anything like my 335i.....

The 530i is good, but if you're after better economy, the 530d is a much better buy. Much more enjoyable car in automatic too than the 530i.

However, if you drive the 530i sensibly, i.e. try to be a bit relaxed on the throttle in town driving and let the auto box change early, then it should be around 12l/100km.

Will be perfect for a woman, they will get better fuel economy than us men can. My gf has got her e46 330i down to 8.8lt/100km now, I could only get those figures on the highway...:fencelook:

Thanks MSM, 530d is better, but since this one is paid up and I don't owe anything on any of my cars, my choice would be to stick with petrol. 10-13 sounds reasonable enough. My wife is relaxed behind the wheel as she drives the kids around to all the normal activities, except when she gets behind the wheel of my 335i, then shes a demon!!

I bought the car on a whim to re-sell immediately, then 5 series plunged. I am still willing to let it go for 280k but buyers are far between.

I thought I will let her drive it until m/plan and then trade it on a new or demo F30 next year.

If it is fully paid for, as in you don't owe anything on it, then I would say rather keep the car! Economy is not going to be BAD if driven sensibly - plenty of reserve power for your Wife when she needs it, so a safe car to drive. These things are of course at their best at open road speeds, but even in town they can be decently economical.

Okay, cannot really compare an E90 to an E60, but look at my car's consumption in my signature - can actually open the fuelly link and see my individual tank ranges based on type of driving. Differences obviously are: mine is a 2005 model so has the N52B30 190kw engine, manual gearbox, and non-sportpack...

But I reckon fairly close to get an idea I think. Also at the coast, so with the more dense air, at speed economy is not as good as at altitude, but in town driving should be similar, although maybe a bit more frugal at the coast.

Daily running costs against purchase replacement costs is basically the thing to consider - selling a car is always going to ultimately result in a loss of money, then buying is going to be the opposite again. So unless the car is severely heavy on fuel and the replacement completely the opposite, it doesn't make sense - if that makes sense. Plus I gather that the car is still under motorplan!! :thumbs:

I get a combined cycle of around 12.x L/100km through normal weekly travels with a mixture of traffic on the highway (M1) and low 9's/km when on a long road with full load.

That's on a 4.8L V8 which I don't think is too bad.

Lots of stop and go will take me into the 14's but that's urban areas.

I am very keen to get rid of the Mazda 5 and have a only BMW garage. 6 BMW in my house alone. I initially bought the Mazda 5 for my wife and kids. Sliding electric doors are great for a mother with hands full etc when getting them in and out. It has been a great drive but the service levels and competence of Mazda has left a bitter taste in my mouth.

I think with expected 10-12l /100km I can live with the 530i. I enjoyed the 500km I did with it and it does have a good kick when needed especially with the sports-box. And I love the Titanium silver with Anthracite interior...

I will post my wifes smile when I tell her!!
