Nice maintenance list... Thats what all S54 owners should be doing!

Congrats and many happy miles!

Hey bud,

I too never paid much attention to the Z4 M's.... Until i went out searching for an E46 M, couldn't find one that i would have liked to buy and then started looking into the Z4M, only then did i realize what an epic car this is...

Envy doesn't even begin to describe my feelings - Do you mind letting us know the costs for everything done so far (and for the planned next stages, bearings etc.)?

And in terms of difficulty? Is it enough to read a few guides and get your own toolkit out to change some of the more standard parts (filters, plugs etc.)

As an aside, I never liked the red leather that much, but MY GOD, does it look good on that black paint - your car is practically a freaking mirror! Wow.

Cheers!

Hi bud

The pics are edited a bit. My car's paint is in need of some correction.. its got alot of swirl marks and holograms from some dodgy detailer/polisher in its past life.. I will do the paint correction soon as i get some time...

In terms of difficulty, There are loads of DIY's online that you can follow to do the basic stuff... I've got some experience doing basic maintenance on cars so it wasn't difficult for me plus my brother helps me and he's quite sharp...

These are the prices of the items i changed.

OEM Items from BMW:.........................................Quantity..........P/Number................Price
> Spark Plugs (NGK DCPR8EKP)...............................x6..............12120022902.............R1250.00

> Liqui Moly GL5 LS 75w140 Diff Oil....................x2..............LS Diff Oil................R1170.00

I haven't yet got all the pricing on the Bearing/Vanos and Shims job...
So far:
Vanos seals - R1235.00
Rattle repair Kit - R1645.00
Vanos Sealing plate - R205

Bearings/Gaskets/Rod bolts - is about R6500 (more items still required - Oil, Ceratec, Oil filter and a few other odds and ends will be needed)

Front Brake Discs - R3600 (each)
Pads - still need to order

Tyres - got a quote from Minty's last week for Toyo Rubber 225/45/R18 & 255/40/R18 - R8000 (Fitted, balanced and aligned)

Hope this helps....

Excellent stuff. Glad you're doing the proper preventative work for the engine.

That actually seems ok in terms of costing - think I'd need to get a mechie to do a fair bit of it though :/ Not sure I'd back myself with anything too heavy!

Anyway, keep us updated here on any progress - maybe think about the short stub radio aerial. I think another post mentions it and it's only 450 or so if I recall, makes a difference to have a short stub that doesn't cut the lines of the car so heavily.

Yours is a gorgeous example - truly spectacular!

Very nice to see this amount of TLC going into an S54. It will last you forever and a day.

You probably mean 255 / 40 tyres right?

The car appears to be in fantastic condition:clapper:
I once drove an S54 engined Z4 with poly mounts, and didnt like it at all.
Would like to hear your opinion on it in the long run.
Well done in keeping up with the required maintenance:thumbs:

Thank you. The mounts are hard and do cause some vibration, but I seldom drive it so it doesn't bother me too much... I read on z4post that these cars have some issues going into 2nd gear, my car was also grinding at times going into 2nd (had to nurse it into 2nd) when i got it but the mounts and new oil managed to sort that out and it feels so much better changing gears... its the only reason i went poly.

Nicely maintained. Great attention to detail, especially the new drain plugs!

What's the current mileage? Or did I miss it somewhere in the thread?

Thanks bud, I've put together a millage based schedule... so by the time I reach 100,000km, the list will be satisfied.

I'm due for my first fluid change, already discussed with uncle Peter, he was kind enough to invite me to bring my, as he calls it, tuxedo... as I might get some flower petals on my sleeve.

the ones you experienced were the bolt though Race mounts I would not recommend these for any street car these have no dampening under tensile load only compression

the ones johndoe has are Isolated and completely different you do feel them under Idle and startup but it is more of a I have a supercar and can feel the engine feeling  rather than I have fitted race car parts and ruined my car

Rubber = limo
Axis Isolated polly = sports car (improved shiftier feel, driveline response and front end body movement)
Axis bolt though = race car (you WILL hate them on a street car)

So to update my Thread, The last week has been a very expensive exercise for me but I have to say, Peace of Mind is Priceless...and i finally have it :)

I spoke with a few people who had work done on their cars by Peter Karvelas and the general consensus was that there's no one else on earth these guys would trust with their ///M cars. So i got in contact with Peter, we spoke, he advised me on the entire process and we set a date to drop off the car.

Next he started collecting the quotes required for performing the following Maintenance tasks:
> Replace Rod Bearings
> Replace/Repair Vanos
> Set Valve clearances
> Replace Front Brakes

Quotes where sent to me with supplier details, I did the EFT's and Peter receives The Parts.

Once the parts are all received, we drop off the car with him and then he starts... it will take 7 - 10 days, you DONT rush him! LoL

So I dropped the car off with him (was easy to find his house, its the one with all the ///M cars parked everywhere) , and from there it starts... He flooded my phone with Pics (by the end of the job there was 280 pics uploaded in a Drop Box account for you to download as well as all the Technical data related to your Motor {Valve Clearances,Bearing Clearances, Compression test results and more}) , He stripped everything, cleans everything, addresses whatever requires attention even if its not part of the job, he lets you know exactly whats not right with the car and if need be, he gets a quote for you to repair/replace...

I even got some time to swing by him after he had pulled out the rod bearings, he showed me the worn out bearings and explained to me how and why it starts wearing down... I got mine done just at the right time (106500kms) as they were worn down but didn't damage/wear down the crank/journals.

All in all, I have to say, This guy knows his story!! He's mastered the art of doing this job. he stripped out the car so fast and did all the work with time to take pics and still address other issues that we picked up. I had my car back within 7 days of him starting the work on it. I now know and have full faith that this machine will live a long healthy life.

So far i've only done like 70km's since i've collected the car but its going like a dream, smooth like butter and a whole lot more puncy...

I have to say a Big thanks to Peter for the fantastic work, sound advice/great tips&tricks and to Sean for some of the parts that where supplied during this build. :ty:

Here's some of the Parts:
