There's an OEM alpine option to upgrade the base system. Check how much swapping to Gladen/Mosconi/RF etc would be and also what the Bavsound upgrade would cost these days.

Part #s for Alpine on F30:

65 41 2 293 994
51 33 7 323 509
51 33 7 323 510
65 12 2 355 874

You can get all of those things in South Africa (They can ship you Bavsound via DHL in a few days).

Hygrade keeps Gladen & Mosconi...
Many many RF dealers with BMW drop-ins in stock...

Dealer can order against those part numbers... You have to use that retrofit kit - there is no 'official' kit to upgrade to HK - otherwise go to a scrapyard and hope for the best?

So I have been down this road on my F30. It had the stock sound system. which is a challenge (the hi-fi loud system and HK has an amp whilst the stock does not). It does get expensive when one tries to add the amp in.

Speakers
The stock system has 4 door speakers and the two under seat sub. Getting to HK is almost impossible as HK has additional speakers on the rear parcel shelf, tweeters only rear doors, tweeters in front door a pillar, and centre speaker in dash (don’t think you can get there with stock)

What i did - I managed to get my hands on a full HK speaker set (came of a F30 getting a Rockford upgrade). I swooped out the door speakers (which made a difference).

I then went down the amplifying route which became very expensive. The full set up landed me around R20k. The end product was decent, a lot louder than the HK system but I never have the same low frequency and mid range as HK.

In hind sight ,I should have rather looked for a drop in speaker upgrade and stop there. I also learnt that I will always make sure that my next cars have HK from factory.

If i go to a scrapyard to get the HK sound system, can i get BMW to fit for me?

Whats the damage more or less?
Well I cannot comment on pricing BUT in 2018, he was going to do a custom install into my wifes ix35 SUV for R13000...literally park your car and leave it, fetch it without seeing anything ut when the sound is on you will hear the difference. Even the sub was going to be in sparewheel and the bootfloor customed. Best by far!
