Handbrake shoes replacement intervals?

Hello all,

Pretty soon I need to change the rear discs and pads on the 130i. Having done some reading, I cannot find conclusive input on whether the handbrake shoes should be replaced at the same time or not?

I haven't stripped the car yet to inspect the condition of the shoes. I haven't got any issues with the handbrake squealing or not holding, it also holds firm on about 4-5 clicks.

Any inputs / thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

I'd go by the old adage, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". The only time you would replace them is if they have been poorly adjusted and have been binding resulting in them overheating.

I cant comment on the 130i, but I did the mine on 330! E46 and it made no difference in the 'performance' what so ever. They technically should barely wear so check them for piece of mind but I wouldn't buy replacements just yet.

If the handbrake (parkbrake) was used for its intended purpose ( to keep the car stationary) then it would last the lifetime of the car.

Only an adjustment is needed - to complensate for the cable stretch..

Here is the only way (that I can think of) to wear out the handbrake shoes. :RedNo:
