Halogen --> Xenon + Angel Eyes ?

Howsit peeps.

Is it possible to retrofit xenons with angel eyes onto my e88?

I haven't seen angel eye retrofit kits here in SA, and there's not much info about them on the net either.

Got halogens on there at the moment. Really dig the look of the angel eyes, but if it's not possible, then just xenons will still be better.

Any recommendations, tips, warnings?

Are the xenons from AutoStyle any good? (about R2k)

Also came across these:

http://bbautozone.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=43&Itemid=43 - Is this just the HID light and not the xenon bulbs?

http://turborevs.org.uk/hid-convers...yes-hid-conversion-kit/view-all-products.html - would this be what I would need? Also, anyone know if if my car would need H4 or H7 bulbs? I have a feeling it's H7.

I would definitely look into importing something like this. at the end of the day you might have something that cost slightly more, but the stuff we get here in SA is cheap shit that is not even manufactured properly.

Hmm that's what I suspected..

I'm going to the UK in a few weeks... Also going to Dubai but I suspect they would have the same chinese stuff we get here?

Just wanted to make sure I know exactly what to pick up and if it is actually possible or not? Can bring them back pretty easily.

Thought maybe you guys would know if i'm looking at the right thing or not. And what size xenon i would need (H1,4,7 etc.)

Also, anything else I should pick up while im in the UK? They have such nice quality stuff over there which is pretty hard to come by over here!

Thanks

I don't know what the local regulation say, but in America it's illegal to have HID in a non-projector housing. This means that xenons or any HID light source must be in that 'glass bulb' as pictured above.

The HID lights in the BBAutozone Holder (http://bbautozone.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=43&Itemid=43) will surely blind the sh!t out of oncoming traffic because its not a focused beam, but a very strong beam just scattered over the road with no definitive cut-off. I'd be mad if you came at me with those beams...

As far as Autostyle JHB's HID kits, you get them everywhere nowadays for as low as R500. Just look on Bidorbuy. The tricky part is that its not so easy to tell the good from the bad here since it's all relatively unknown names. Having a ballast (that you DIY'd) just adds to the risk of electrical fire under the hood. A lot of people had close call regarding DIY'd HID and AE's(angel eyes).

My advice is: 1st go for blue Nightbreaker bulbs if you want the clear white look that HID gives. This in itself is a huge improvement.
For AE's, see if you can get LED ones. This saves the trouble from installing a ballast, since they are virtually plug-n-play and the dozens of flaws that can occur with the CCFL ones. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing worng with CCFL, lots of people are using them with great results, but it comes down to personal choice. Look for the 60LED (though I doubt they'll be in SA yet) or at least the 30LED version.

FOR HEAVENS SAKE DON'T use those LED flexible strips that you get nowadys and stick that in your light housing. (Leave that for the civic boys...)

Thanks checking them out now!

Is 6000k Aqua Blue the best one? Any idea what the BMW xenons are?

OK, maybe we need to clear up the terms here.
The stock light housing has two cup in it with normal halogen 55W (yellow colour) bulbs and had NO ballast.
Xenons has one cup and one projector lens eg. the 'glass ball'. This unit contains the HID bulb that has a ballast attached that powers it. It is either HID or Xenon. (Some people say its the same...)
Now Angel eyes are ONLY the light rings that surround either the stock cup or the projector housing.

If you have no xenons, but want to upgrade your light to HID, then this unit (http://www.jlevistreetwerks.com/BMW...les-for-Most-New-BMW-Models/product_info.html) only gives you the Angel Eye set (rings), not the H8 bulbs and ballast.

For HID H8 bulbs you can go to BBAutozone and just get the H8 HID kit.

I don't know about the E88, but the E60 comes out with all the hardware for EA's(rings & shrouds are already installed), except the light units and ballasts, so to retrofit AE and HID should not bee too tough.

No lol let me try explain myself better cos it's confusing even me :)

I have stock halogens (high beam and low beam) and want xenons (if possible angel eyes with that too)

What I was saying is these (http://www.jlevistreetwerks.com/BMW...les-for-Most-New-BMW-Models/product_info.html ) seem to be for people that already have angel eyes, but want to change the colour of the angel eyes from halogen to HID? Is that right? Because if so, that's not what i'm after..

I'm after xenons with angel eyes that I can replace my stock halogens with..

Thanks, hope that clears it up a bit :)

Yeah that's what i've got - the stock halogens..

What I want is both xenons, and if possible, ones with angel eyes around them!

Basically, i want to go from these (http://top-cp.co.za/imup/top/top4a09c59fbb703.jpg ) to a setup that looks like this (http://xenon-bulbs.com/xenon pics/bmw6000k2.JPG )

Thanks guys

Ok, you'll have to replace the whole light housing and replace it with what is called a 'projector housing'. Good luck since scrapyards sell the projector housing for the E46 at R4k a set...

Have you got a pic of your current setup?

Both links are dead..

buy complete light housing from agents.
The housing isnt that expensive, but the xenon bulb will be killer.. I thnk 2k each.
The angel eye bulbs are h8, and u can get 7500k for 450-500 per set.

Oh yeh, i would try to stick with oem parts when it comes to lights.
Fitment will be perfect.. And if the xenon bulbs go out, mplan will cover.
The only factor should really be pricing.

Check scrapyards also.

Ok so there's this "Sui" guy from 1Addicts forum selling whole OEM BMW Xenon housing with bulbs + ballasts for E82/E88 for about $1100 = +-R8500

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=228717#16

He stays in Germany and says he has 4 left. Email from him:

Actual, i have 4 brandnew sets of xenon available.
Of course they are OEM BMW with angel eyes.
They are complete with bulbs and ballasts and without any damadges.

The price would be 1022$ + 79$ shipping.
It will not be a plug and play job regarding error codes.

You have to change the footwell module, which is available at BMW dealers.
Maybe there is also a workaraund described in the forum ?

Thanks
Thomas

Anyone know how I would get these working let alone without error codes?

Only thing is I would be a bit weary about handing over that kind of money over the net? :/ Especially since I dunno who this guy is.. Only seen one post on the 1addicts forum saying they have bought stuff from him before.

SUI is selling the 1 series xenon, I've bought things from SUI before.
contact him if you want the OEM xenon.

What you guys say?

Thanks twinz appreciate the recommendations and for the offer of adding onto your order!

The problem isnt the bulbs, but the projector housing.

At the moment I have halogen reflector housing without projectors. Those guys don't sell this housing which I would need, and consequently have no angel eyes.

I'll be in USA from the 31st, so will check out the kit you said, however I'm not so keen on putting them in my halogen housing without projectors.. hmm..
