See now this worries me.
I found this on the bimmerfest forum so same issue as me.
He has changed his tranny.
I sent him a message to ask him if he also did the torque converter.

hey all..
330i 2001. Auto Trans. Around 120K Miles. European Origin.
i got this problem that has been lasting for ever - if driving on 5th speed (normally the RPM should be between 2200 and 3000 "Depends"), if i try to slowly / Slowly accelerate - "without forcing to go to the 4th speed" , the RPM will dip down like 300 to 500 and the car seems like to step back.. if i slightly "i mean slightly" take my foot off the paddle the RPM suddenly jumps up and the car will accelerate. this also happen will drving manual.

However; if the RPM is like 3200 and try to do the same it just accelarates with no issues.

generally speaking, the car is very well maintained with no delays in fixing any minor issues that can pop up every now and then. I just LOVE this car !! ANY IDEA? plz help !

Fixes "Trouble Shooting" done so far:

1- Changed the DISA "Brand-new".
2- Changed Air Mass "Brand-new".
3- Changed Air Filter "Brand-new".
4- Changed all air Pipes from the Muffler down to the Throttle - Complete Set "Brand-new".
5- Changed Coils "Brand-new".
6- Sparks "Brand-new".
7- Intake and exhaust Sensors. "Just Tried new ones and didnt seem to sort out the problem".
9- Last Summer i did a complete build of the engine due to some oil consumption - the car was consuming 2.5 Kilos of Oil at 5k km, it does Zero Oil consumption now.
8- Last but not least- i just changed my tranny, and this bug seems to be persisting.

the codes should bring up engine problems so check that 1st you dont want to be changing the box if its not that...

make a new post about what your problem is and maybe someone can shed some light on it...
