Had my car 2.5 months look at what it's cost.

You can pop over this evening if you not busy, I'm at home anytime after 5, otherwise on the weekend is fine as well.

a car like that will always give problems, sell it and cut your losses, but dont go back to Honda, just get one that was better looked after.

Hang on to the car. Budget as if it is on a Motorplan, then it should be fine. Any brand of car does need repairs eventually. Even new ones.

BMW's are not cheap regardless, In four years I probably spent 65K on a car I bought for 100K, now it needs more.

Therefore it's better not to count and just enjoy when it's going right.

Anyway 16K won't even buy you a new engine ECU on an entry level new car these days........

Howzit BrownFox,

did someone not play with the mileage on the car prior to you purchasing it?

I am just thinking of some recourse that you might get if you bought it from a dealer.

Extremely unlucky though. Had to take a similar decision a month ago on my wife's Honda Civic with 70k km on the clock. Had to dump R17k into the car and the troubles just kept on coming.

for me I would never recoup what I dumped into the car and I finally decided enough was enough and sold the car.

On the flipside, I had a 1995 316i and took it up to 287k km without a single sent being spent except for regular maintenance and a few globes.

good luck with the decision.

Yeah true.
I am lucky that I took out an insurance out on the car.
So it's paid for 10k of the 16k

I am just worried about something else breaking after all this work has been done.
So I was thinking of doing the TC and selling the damn thing and going back to honda.

Hey - what do you mean by insurance?

I have to agree with the sentiments that you must sell the car.

All too often I've seen people throw money into a bottomless pit trying to get the car to the level they want.

Get a toyota tazz or something, I think spending/throwing money on a car is a very bad decision. Although I have plenty cars with plenty mods, I have never used the money that I worked hard for to finance them, otherwise you are just working to drive your car to work.

Hi

This is so sad but also very commin. My father bought a 740 a while back, guys also said that everything worked, had to replace all the bushes and radio and shocks, and on a e38 740 those items are cheap.

Thing is also now you know what is new on the car. just bite the bullit and keep it. If everything is fixed then you will enjoy many years of happy motoring.

It is just sad to see how a car with only 123K Km is so bad. we had e39 5ers that did over 300K km with no problems.

instead of the TC, y not conver to manual......so much more fun.

Yeah I would love to.
Freerider took me for a spin in his 320i manual.
I was thinking damn I should have bought a manual.
It so much more fun than my auto :banghead:

I have a 5 speed box, prop and diff if you want to convert...

I would not know where to begin..
Also I would have to pay out of my own pocket to do that, where now my
Motor extender insurance would cover the torque converter.

if you interested in doing it ill give you a good price for the parts...

Thanks Man,
But I think it would be little hard to get the parts from PMB
Heavy stuff gearboxs are.

But I will keep it in mind if I go that root.

you will need to get the hydrolics for the clutch and a few extra bits thou...

but id rather do that than fix the auto box because you will be more happy with what you have in the end...

get a quote to fix your auto box then price the parts you need for the swap and decide from there...

forgot to mention i have all the linkages you need for gear stick also

Will do.
First I am going to take Freeriders advice and change the tranny fluid.
But still have to let my wallet recover first before i do that.
