Would be quite interesting if it actually happens! Would also be good marketing for Cape Town as a premier travel destination to the rest of the world :thumbsup:

EXTRACT(s):

The subject Bid has been formulated with the aim of hosting Formula One Grand Prix™ events from 2014 onwards, as well as other FIA-regulated Grand Prix events. The hosting of major Grand Prix events in Cape Town will play a pivotal role in enhancing the already-established tourism profile of Cape Town, the Western Cape, South Africa and Formula One Grand Prix™, as the flagship Grand Prix discipline, brings with it a niche market that presents a new demographic to Cape Town, the Western Cape and South Africa’s visitor profile.

There is regular talk of a Grand Prix coming to Cape Town. The latest bid, one of three, proposes a Monaco-style street Grand Prix in September 2013, to be held in Sea Point, Green Point and Mouille Point, reports the Cape Argus.

The Cape Town Grand Prix Bid Company (Pty) Limited was invited by Formula One’s Ernie Ecclestone to present a proposal before the beginning of the new Formula One season in March. A 5,3 km route is proposed, which will have Table Mountain, Lion’s Head and the Atlantic Ocean as a backdrop, with magnificent benefits for tourism, given the TV coverage that the event would attract. The route includes the Cape Town Stadium, which is proposed as the start and end to the Grand Prix route.

Thats actually old news. We gave a bid last year for this year and it was between us and the USA. A bunch of 'cocks' staying close to Green Point stadium complained because the noise levels were going to interrupt their afternoon naps so we withdrew

Well it would help too if we addressed the King of F1 as Bernie and not as Ernie.
I think that in itself would be a step in the right direction.

That's like the idiots that live near Ysterplaat Airforce Base complaining about noise levels during yearly air shows... Nobody said you have to live there! And such a narrow minded mentality considering, when it's the Grand Prix weekend at Monaco, the city is pretty much closed for the general public!!
