Good street tyre for e46 M3

I run R888s on an E55 making over 500whp and bucket loads of torque. They perform reasonably well but need to be warmed up to get the best out of them. They are noisy though and while the sound proofing on the E55 largely negates the noise, on some other cars running them that I've driven, I found the tyre noise to be uncomfortably loud.

I've tested an F10 M5 with the 4s tyres on the rear and was really impressed - can't say there was much difference between those and the R888s on that particular car.

There are some really good reviews of the Goodyear Eagle Supersport RS and I plan to try them next

I've watched a video by tyrereviews.co.uk yesterday on Youtube. The Supersport R and RS are track focused tyres and are in the same range as the Cup 2 and Cup 2R. They will struggle in the wet, like the Cup 2 tyres and have the best dry grip.

Again, from reviews, where the Michelin's are clearly superior is the mileage you can get out of them. But take this info with a pinch of salt as I haven't done much mileage yet to comment from personal experience.

Also considering Toyo Proxies. Reviews vs the money spent seems to be good so I'm willing to give it a shot.

Yes, I would think that performance in the wet would be a little hairy - but the same applies to the R888s - and they seem to be an option under consideration. I don't daily the E55 and avoid taking it out when it rains or when rain is forecast so wet weather performance ranks lowly on my check list. If I was using the vehicle as a daily, I'd avoid all of the semi-slicks. The other consideration with the R888s is durability - which won't send one skipping down the corridor with joy. I'd imagine the same would apply to all track-focused tyres

Crash, i have used the AD08's on my E46 M3, RS4 and when my tyres are shot on the E92 I will go back.... BEST Tyre i have ever used. Decent wet grip as well, minimal noise and phenomenal traction. You won't be dissapointed

So yes.... clearly a fanboy:smilebounce:

I do agree with you on every thing and partially on the wet grip.....
They are excellent in the wet provided you stay below 100km/h in heavy downpours. They Aquaplane easily over 100

Eust, those Hankook Ventus Evo 1's are the very first tyre I ever had on my M3. Also had the Hankook Ventus 12 Evo 2's.

They are a great tyre and gave some awesome all round performance, and again, preferred them over the Pilot SuperSports I had.

Currently, I am looking for something a little more grippier as my car is more track focused and runs some aggressive coilovers and camber plates with significant upgrades in swaybars and end links. Right now, my weakest link is the tyres I choose.

For street driving the Hankooks are an amazing tyre for the price, up there with the Toyo Proxy T1. I would highly recommend them, so you will be in good order sir. Thanks for the heads up.

Going to either go for the Hankook, CSC6 or actually the NEXEN SU1s, as a ton of people have been talking to me about these tyres. I'm pretty sceptical but at 7k I might give them a go and if they not great then sell them off with the spare rims I have.

Does it not make more sense to have a track setup( spare set of wheels with track tyres) and a different set of tyres for the street. By having a track tyre on the road or a road tyre on the track, it seems like you are making a compromise either way .

I've had Yoko AD08 on my E90 323 before, found them very grippy BUT they do not like standing water. Currently have PS 4 on the 330Ci and in my use find them to be at least as grippy when pushing in bends, and infinitely more capable in the wet.
My attraction to the Yokos though was that they cost vastly cheaper then the Michelin/Bridgestone/Goodyear performance equivalents, so for me that made up the the low wet performance.

I do not drive the car in the rain, and if caught in a storm, I drive incredibly slow. So I am not concerned about wet weather performance.

@boots3d - Regarding getting a second set of wheels and tyres, I am out of country for more than half the year. Last year alone I was away for 8 months, so it wouldn't make sense for me to spend R20k on one set of street performance tyres, and then maybe R16k on another set of Semi's, excluding rims, and barely drive either of them.

For the size of tyre I need in Michellin, we are looking at R5k a tyre, the last time I checked.

So I am looking at something that can give me the best of both worlds. The Toyo Proxies have been an impressive street tyre. In fact, they are fantastic. I just wanted to hear other fanatic members experiences and opinions of running semi slick tyres on the street and regarding how little I drive the car, if it would be worth it for the extra second or two I may gain on the track.

Conti's grip alot better. Maybe look at that, similar price to Michellin

Probably not even known by most people but Vitours have proven to be a very cheap but sticky rubber for a number of guys here in the Cape, chosen over the more expensive variants as well. Guys I know all have 700+nm cars and complimented it's grip over other manufacturers.
Plus they pretty damn cheap.

You can also look into seeing if anyone still stock Vredesteins.

I seem to have missed this thread. I'll give my 2c anyway..

I have Yoki AD08s on the rear of my 330d. Grip used to be quite decent previously, but recently it just lights up the TC light all the way to 3rd and sometimes 4th. I am not sure if the compound went hard (only a year old) or what happened, but they really have become quite awful to drive around with.

The tyres are quite far off the wear indicator as well.

Another issue with the AD08/R is that Yokohama SA have limited stock and will only import as needed, so it's not always easy to get your hands on a set.

I think other good alternatives will be Federal 595RSR or Toyo R888R as both are road legal, have softer compounds than the AD08s and will grip better.
