Good street tyre for e46 M3

I'm starting to look for a good tyre for my m3 that gives great grip and performance for 19" rim. I am currently riding on Michelin pilot sports 2 but they are soft compound and take time to warm up before gripping. Traction control light is always flashing and ecu is cutting power. If I turn off TC, then The rear wheels just light up and I'm left trying to keep the car going in a straight line and not hit the guy in the lane next to me. Used to be fun but now I'm over it. I used to have Hankook Evo's before and they hooked up very well. Not too impressed with the michelins to be honest. I just spin in first and second gear.

Any feedback on tyres would be appreciated. Looking at Toyo and hankook.

I'll look them up, never thought about them. Heard Toyo proxies aren't bad but not sure. Anyone else have experience with them?

Goodyear Eagle F1, probably one of the best known performance tyres out there.

PSS > PS2
Or are you not a fan of those either?
AD08Rs are amazing, it handles the rain quite well for a semi.
Won't last as long as PSS though.

No unfortunately not. I myself constantly struggle with traction on the M6, be it rolling runs from 60kmh, or partial throttle from stop. I had the bridgestones potenzas and now trying falkens, falkens are impressive for the price but not up to my standards for grip at the back, however ticks all the other boxes.

Touos however I had on the 4.6is x5, and now the M3. The M3 struggles to break traction, on a very very healthy engine with software. I actually have to launch it from 3K rpms before it breaks traction otherwise it doesn't. So impressed with them.

If you get the chance to drive a car with the goo years. Take it. They are some of the best tyres I've owned. From PS3s to pirrelli p zeros to Contis. With my 330d it does lose a bit of traction in first and second. But with 214kw and 620nm I think that's going to happen whatever the tyre I have on. The Falkens that came with car didn't stand a chance and I'd just spin.

Another shout out for Eagle F1's. Had them on my M and they were awesome, even in the cold of the UK. The Bridgestone's that were on before weren't nearly as good. Was quite tail happy with the Potenza's on.

Have a read here.

Thought I would update this after 3 years.

I went with the Toyo Proxies. Not the semi slick R888r's, but the street T1 sport and I have been super impressed. Got them from Minty's Tyre and all in for a full set cost me around R9000 for the M3.

I am out of the country a lot and don't put many miles on the car, but from the track days and general performance driving, the tyres have been amazing. I would recommend them over the Michellin Pilot Sport 2's I had any day as the grip was far superior. I've had them on the car for almost 3 years and they have lasted well.

I recently hit a massive pothole and unfortunately got a bubble on the front right sidewall (due to sidewall being small, as I run 19" low profile wheels) 275/30/19 at the rear and 245/35/19 upfront.

Am now looking to either replace this set with another of the same, or move up to Semi Slick R888r's. I saw someone mention the AD08R's. Keen to get some comments on people who have experience with said tyres.

Additional info that may or may not be relevant for selecting a tyre. I run aggressive camber on the car, -3.5 upfront and -2.5 at the back when at track days, and around -2.5 and -1.5 for street.

Crash, i have used the AD08's on my E46 M3, RS4 and when my tyres are shot on the E92 I will go back.... BEST Tyre i have ever used. Decent wet grip as well, minimal noise and phenomenal traction. You won't be dissapointed

Have you considered Supersports or Pilot sport 4S? Great road tyres with plenty of grip from the short time that I've used them.

I haven't used them on a track yet, but will do later this year. But, from reviews, they hold up very well to track abuse. The side walls are quite strong/firm as well.

adding to this, look at the A048's but i believe to be more affected by heat cycles and deteriorating performance over time much like the Potenza semi's

Thanks for the info. Any information on where is the best place to source these tyres?

@Avi, thanks, I will read into the PS4's. I've watched a few review videos on them. Something about my last experience with Michellin has left a stale taste in my mouth, but I do understand my Pilot Supersport 2's were an older tyre and were also affected by heat cylce drop off as well as needed proper heating up to function correctly. Couldn't believe how a tyre makes such a difference in a cars handling. Like night and day.

I have always bought from Errol's but I see their size selection has gone down. Best to call them

Also had great experiences with Toyo T1 Sport on my M coupe and i'm still running them now... I've got PS4's on my E55 and they are a great choice too if they fit the budget...
