Good price on this 135?

I have a friend willing to sell me his 2009 135i for R225 000.

The mileage is a bit heavy at 160 000km however the car has quiet a few extra goodies:

Bilstein suspension
Coilovers
1M body kit
Original BBS rims
JB4

Just had a carbon clean done and the water pump replaced. Owner thinks the turbos are on the way out so that's about R15k in the next few months.

His dad's a BMW mechanic and they didn't plan on selling the car, they were planning on selling their 2009 335i (90 000km).

I can get the 335 for something under R200 000, unfortunately it's the prefacelift and I'll be frank when I say the looks of an e90 vs a e82 are worlds apart.

Anyone know if this is a good price for the 135i? I understand the mileage is quite high but the owner isn't too keen on selling the car and his dad seems quite confident in it's longetivity

Any thoughts on either of these 2 cars? Really stuck on the fence right now between either of these or a 120d which also seem to hover around the R200 000 range

No chance I would buy that km car for that price, but I especially if you saying turbo needs replacing and it's modded.

Option 1

Option 2

Option 3

At R240k+ with the turbo replacement, that's crazy.

At R250k there are a good few decent cars that come up.

Rather look elsewhere.

I agree.

Only knowing what you’ve described about the car, I think the price is steep for what is on offer.

140k to 160k....

an e92 335i Msport would be a better buy......They are higher speced than the 1 series straight of the bat....

I agree .... I would say even R130 to R140 considering the turbo's on their way out and the extras can't be taken into account ..... there's plenty good clean cars you can buy for R225 000.... don't be fooled by their sales pitch ..... if the car is so great and they don't really want to sell it then why don't they keep it ?

I would personally look for a stock standard one with similar mileage that's clean and then modify it myself ..... for R225 000 you can easily do it and have peace of mind with car in the future.

Sums it up for me.. rather get stock standard car.. 2009 = 11 years old, it is definitely overpriced, and they are simply trying to recover the money spent in their mods..  :withStu:

After some thought I think I'll rather go with something a bit more sensible as my first car rather than an N54.

Thanks for all the replies guys!

Good thinking...too expensive. Nice to see people taking the advice they ask for here.

What did you have in mind ? Don’t be discouraged by N54 maintenance bills, it is possible to keep a BMW out of motorplan XD
Go for a Manual BMW 6 Cyl —M54 or N52 even the diesels are power— you will fall in love with the brand all over again.
I wish I started simple instead of going straight into a N54, there’s a lot of the finer things that I took for granted.

If you're young and single and don't need the room a Z4 3.0SI coupe (if you can find one) will be a bundle of fun and not unbearably expensive - certainly cheaper than the 135i you describe above...

You say the owner is certain of the longevity of the car but the turbos are on its way out? So Which is it?

Also the whole "I don't really want to sell my car, but if I can get this price... " tactic is BS.

Unless you buying a highly desirable car that can potentially appreciate in value don't ever pay over retail. You are being taken for a ride, walk away.

I'm definitely sticking in the BMW family, it's hard for anything to beat the fun factor of RWD. Right now I'm happy to find a 120d, preferably e82 but there don't seem to be many at <120 00km

The Z4's are gorgeous but Friday nights with the buds means I'll need the rear seats. We've squeezed 5 in the back of an e82 before. It was not pretty but got the job done

Apparently the rest of the engine is good. Glad I'm not going with it though, the more I think about it the more I realize it's not the best move I can make right now.

Consider a F30 335i or M135i
Prices of those are definitely out of budget.

But either way I've taken a back seat with car shopping as I'll be working from home. I'm hoping that with the extra time I can find a clean 120d for a good price.

Agree on the 120d

since it has coil overs and a JB4 there is a good chance it was abused and also put on the track

I would skip few others out there
