"Gift" from a passing truck....

Damn dude,
Like the guys said, glad it was the windscreen and not the body.

I had similar incident some years back. Driving up from Durban and I hit a Guinea fowl.
These things were standing on the road and then decided to fly straight up and as I came past, it landed on my windscreen....in direct line of sight.

Sorry bud

Sorry bru, the same happened to me on Van Reenen's pass about 10 years ago on a rainy evening on my way to Pmb, but when it hit...it sounded like someone slapped the windscreen with an open hand. it was square in line with my (newly wedded) wife's forehead.

The windscreen did its job and took that like a champ!!!

but the odd thing is how it hits, and creates such damage and just pops off and disappears. didnt hit the body or the roof of the car at all, just whacked the windscreen and that was it,

however, windscreen better than injury or bodywork. Swak to have it though bro.

Oh yes, picking up hitch-hiking animals is next level awesome.
Especially at 2 in the morning, nearly 1000km from home, in a poor cell service area (at the time) and in a Tazz.
Still, it was more fun than dealing with a certain well known insurance company afterwards.

Alvin,

Just make sure to insist on a BMW windscreen and not the non OEM ones. You might have to pay a little bit is on excess. The non OEM ones are quite often a problem because it affects the operation of the rain light sensor. Also, looks like you've got heads up display, be very sure to specify such as there's a coating on the inside of the glass to assist the hud working correctly.

Thanks Gert, I did specify a BMW windscreen. Will confirm the hud with the company doing the replacement. Fortunately I have an excess waiver option....

Might just want to confirm, but usually excess waivers don't apply to windscreen replacements.
