Getting clued up...

...is what I want to do.

I'm quite a noob when it comes to cars, most probably because I've never actually owned one. I have been around some and my dad has owned quite a variety of Mercs, Jaguars, Range Rovers and so on. But I don't have much mechanical expertise myself.

Since I'm planning on getting myself one of the ultimate driving machines by the end of the year, I thought it would probably be a smart idea to get acquainted with them.

Trouble is...on this forum I find all my reading hours are spent either in the For Sale part or in the orgy also known as the Showroom. Awesome, but not constructive.

Is there a good starting point anyone can suggest? A particlar section I should trawl through in search of education? Perhaps even some external links or a really good book...:fencelook:

hi and good luck.

I'm no expert.

I think a good start would be make a list of cars you like and thats within your budget.

I normally use this site http://www.edmunds.com/car-reviews/

Once you have a short list the foot work starts.
Go and see as many different examples of the same ones as possible.
Oh and when you decide witch model you want post here, there are some very bright petrol heads on this site.

the best way to learn is to ether try get your car into perfect condition or modify it... both is best

this forces you to do alot of reading and you will learn alot in a very short time just searching the net and finding info on your car...

best thing for you now is to learn what to look out for on the cars you want to buy... so a search on a model might bring up what you want...

otherwise post up a thread asking about the model you after and someone knowledgeable should be able to advise you...
