Hi guys, thought I'd make a thread to document my ownership journey of my first love (and to post the promised pics from the intro thread). Just to give some info on the car, it's a June 2019 prod. date F20 120i LCI-2 Msport Shadow Edition (long ass name). Currently sits at 1477xxkm's and is in really good mechanical and interior condition with good history, outside is a bit scratched up unfortunately. Considering what it cost and what was available at the same price new or slightly used, I'm very, very chuffed with it. Specced really well as stated in my intro post and it has really impressed me with the interior quality, better than some higher end models from the same era.

First order of business was to tackle the horrendously shiny steering wheel.

Not perfect (as it is scratched up a bit) but feels like new and will certainly do until I can buy an oem wheel with paddles in the future.

Also since I'd like to keep my car in a condition that I'd have peace of mind buying, I'm documenting EVERYTHING, every fuel slip along with mileage and specific amount in litres, kept, every old license disc, kept, every invoice to come, will be kept. I want this to be the type of car that M539 would be impressed with and that starts here.

Thanks for reading, more to come eventuallyTM.

These 1's in Shadow Edition in Alpine White are a great looking package to look at!
Congrats again!
So how did you get the wheel to that state? What was the elbow grease procedure you did?
If you going to get a steering wheel with paddles, does that mean your car has Sport Plus Gearbox or you just want to code it in to use the flappy paddles for fun?

There's a very measured approach to the steering wheel, cos you got to be careful not to dehydrate the leather then it cracks and peels and looks like a Tijuana hookers, um, wait, handbag.... Let's leave it at that.

These 1 Series are great cars, hope you enjoy every minute of it!

Thanks Ash, appreciate it a lot!
Steering wheel was only water, 2 microfibre lappies (dry one and wet one) and a proper arm workout, took like 2-3 minutes. Think I might have taken off some of the dye in the process accidentally but I'm not sure, feels new and looks almost new, the wet lappie was black when I was done.

And on the paddles, one of my friends has an OBD adapter and has coded BMWs in the past with both Bimmerlink and Bimmercode so he can code the paddles in as my car only had the normal auto and he has already coded a bunch of things in for me like stop/start off, cornering fog lights, sport auto, windows one touch with the door open and a few others that I can't remember. Currently we're on the hunt for an 8.8-inch screen as he can code that in too and I've heard of them going for decent prices in the places where he shops for his parts, sadly he has a c-class so no saving him.

You seem to know an awful lot on the mythical creature that is the Tijuana hooker, do you have something to confess?

And thanks a lot, I have grown to love this car more and more every day and am excited to start the process of bringing it back to factory fresh condition, my PPL is just priority now. The biggest thing I've noticed on this vs other hatches are that it feels like a proper car if that makes sense, I've not driven any comparable hatches but vs the econoboxes I've driven its worlds apart.

Thanks Razz! You seem to have excellent taste if I do say so myself lol.

These last few seems to be nicely specced.

My front pdc though I need to change. Only activates when switched on. In my X3, it stays on so when parking it activates auto.

The 120i only goes on when the switch is on. Coding?

For some reason I've developed a reputation as the expert on Tijuana hookers... dunno where that came from cos I've never been anywhere NEAR Mexico! Ok wait that's a lie, I was in Texas a few years ago....

If I am not mistaken, and many on this forum will correct me, but this was the last rear wheel drive 1 series was it not? If that is the case then it's a world apart (as you've mentioned) from any of the usual hatch suspects, so it's the last of it's kind. But it's good that it's grown on you, you have to love what you drive otherwise it's just a means of transportation.
