gearbox troubles

I got myself a 1998 E36 bmw 328i convertable automatic 2months back,driving like a dream,but now I'm having a problem of my gear knob is hard and it doesn't wana move upwords to park and reverse,foward it still goes....what can be the problem.....a friend told me I could b the ATF thits finish and the box is dry,n I can some refull it myself,by pumping it in....but where do I pump it in n where is my gearbox oil dipstick,or any indicater to make sure it realy short with oil.....please help

I am sure you will receive more response if you did a proper introduction in the relevant "New member" section first.....

Regarding your gearbox problem: There are no transmission dipsticks in BMW transmissions. The only way to check is to raise the car, remove the fill plug from the side of the transmission, fluid should just barely dribble out. This would be the correct level. Before topping up, consider doing a complete fluid change.

From what you describe, I doubt if your oil level has anything to do with moving the shifter. Low oil level should only cause jerky, irregular shifts whilst driving. I suspect your shift linkage is worn or damaged.

Like ters said, sounds like the shift linkage is giving issues but what do I know about auto boxes? The only thing I do with them is replace them with 5 or 6spd manual boxes. Auto boxes make cars heavy on fuel and slow, they also cost R35k to fix when they go boom...
