Can anyone tell me if there is any tweaks or any thing that can be done to get better mileage in the e39. I have a 97 528i and the computer is telling me that i am averaging about 22mpg, even though i think it is less

My 2000 323i shows 1.6 L/100km less than the actual. Best is to use a fuel tracking tool ( like www.fuelly.com ) to see the actual consumption figures.
I had a 325i e90 and that was spot on, within 0.1L/100km. To me it looks like fuel measurement accuracy improved substantially on the newer BMW models.

will check it out, but as u said the newer vehicles have better mileage.
What about driving pattern. Doesnt that have a lot to do with ur mileage as well
