Some pics after some TLC this morning. Would be interested to know how many 330d G20 were sold in SA.

Hey man. Was going through this thread as an F30 330d owner myself and always been keen on the G20s. I have access to Lightstone data and I pulled it about 6 months ago. If I remember correctly there were 76 G20 330d’s sold in SA while it was available. 67 or 76 but 99% sure it was 76. Not a hell of a lot. F30 330d’s were over 600 if I remember correctly. The resale on the G20s is insane though even if you look on AutoTrader now what’s out there.

When I was considering purchasing a g20 330d I contacted bmw SA for the numbers. They advised 328 new g20 330ds were sold in SA plus 2 kept by bmw SA for marketing and display purposes later sold as demo so not counted as new. The number of BMW 330d G20 units sold at 328 equates to less than 1% of BMW G20 3 Series Vehicles sold in South Africa

So technically 330 330ds were sold
I have this on email from Bmw SA

That’s interesting because Lightstone data differs a lot and it will tell you how many were registered and at which registering authority (if the OEM reports that way). So I’m not sure why they’d inflate that figure to you so much when the data tells a different story. I work for an OEM and this is what we use across the industry for data so not sure why BMW said that.

Nice stats and very interesting. Its a lovely platform and I enjoy it thoroughly.

Not sure if its worth the large premium though, have been toying with the idea of selling and switching for a 530d at lower cost or even switching to a f series m3 or adding a bit for a f90 m5. Thing is I use it to see clients and pitching up in an aggressive M series car is not always client friendly. The 330d is more subtle on the eye with loads of punch.

Then again the b57 is much more reliable and fuel consumption is amazing whilst still punching high on power and low end torque. Cant think of another diesel of its size being able to push the same numbers. For now I have innovation aftermarket warranty with unlimited cover and option to extend, these warranties from webuycars are amazing if taken out whilst the car still has factory motorplan and up to 3 years unlimited cover.

Even though we have a SUV we have 3 children so a 5 series would have a bit more space in the rear.

A G30 530d is actually better value than a G20 330d. On the used market the 5 series is a better buy. Also they tend to have more tech optioned on them which is also cool.
If you do want to sell that G20 I’m sure there would be many of us in line for it, haha. Someone would have to pry my F30 330d out my hands though. As they say, “30d the world”.

Also on another note the reason the Innovation warranty works so well there is because Innovation do the factory warranties on BMW in SA in any case, so it’s just an extension actually.
