If you've got some savvy about the safest and (arguably) the most effective way to wash your vehicle, you will be familiar with the 2-bucket system, and if you're really OCD you take it to the next level, with a dedicated third bucket specifically used for wheels and tyres.

G Shift is proud to introduce our own range of buckets to satisfy the requirements of the Automotive Enthusiast when it comes to washing your vehicle.  For those not familiar with the multi-bucket washing system, let me elaborate:

At a minimum, 2 buckets should be used, one for holding your washing suds, and the other holding clear water.  To start off, you dip your wash mitt, sponge, or microfiber towel into the wash solution, and proceed to wash a panel of your vehicle.  Then, instead of placing the mitt, spronge or microfiber towel back into the soap solution, you place it into the clean water (rinse bucket).  This will clean it thoroughly.  Once clean, now you place the mitt, sponge or microfiber towel back into the bucket of wash solution, and then proceed to wash the next panel of your vehicle.  Once done, rinse in the rinse bucket and repeat the process.

By following this approach, it prevents contaminants from being re-applied to the vehicle as each panel gets washed. Each time you apply the mitt, sponge or microfiber towel to the vehicle, it is clean and free of dirt and grime, and is loaded with a fresh soap solution.  This goes a long way in avoiding scratching of the paint and other surfaces.

Buckets can be purchased individually or in 2 different combos.

The buckets themselves are 20l in capacity, and come with a lid, so you can store your washing products inside once they themselves are clean and dry. They are clearly labelled with a large, waterproof label, so you will not get confused between which bucket is which.

Check back frequently, as soon there will be a range of dirt-trapping devices which can be inserted into the bottom of the bucket, which effectively separate the clean water from heavily soiled and contaminated dirty water - which is trapped at the bottom of the bucket.

Pricing as follows:

  • Individual Buckets: R85ea (Wash, Rinse, Wheels)
  • Wash + Rinse Combo: R170
  • Wash + Rinse + Wheels Combo: R255
Available in the store: G Shift 20l Buckets

hi,

Coming from the plastic industry, i can say the bucket market is saturated and cut throat to say the least.
Without the dirt catcher at the bottom, you aren't really separating yourself from the rest of the market.

And your price point doesnt differ for the combo? R85 x 3 = R255
You can get buckets pretty much anywhere form as little as R35 to R100 for the same type and size.

As a customer id rather like to see a combo, with cleaning products and a dirt catcher including etc.

I personally couldn't see myself paying R255 for 3 buckets.

Hope this helps.

I just had a De Ja Vu moment....

Anyway, thank you for the feedback.

I'm well aware that buckets can be picked up from just about anywhere, in all shapes and sizes, different colours, etc. You name it, it's out there.

But that's the same with everything in life isn't it?

  • Why buy a BMW 320i for R750k when you can have a Toyota Corolla for R500k?
  • Why buy a R2m apartment in Sandton, when you can have a R2mil full size house in suburbs a little further away?
  • Why pay R175+ for 500ml of car wash suds, when you can buy 5l of car wash suds for R50 from your local chemical wholesaler?
They all serve the same purpose, but with subtle variations and factors to be considered; The merits of these will be debated amongst each individual person.

But anyway, back on topic, the buckets are but 1 piece in a bigger puzzle which is being completed, unfortunately it's taking time to rollout properly, especially after the year-end holidays / closure and with COVID influencing everything around us.

I don't think it's necessary for me to elaborate on the economics of operating a small business, or justify the costing and overheads of each and every product. No small business will be able to compete with the large retail giants based on pricing alone, but that in itself is not the full story.  There are other factors too which all impact the customer experience.  Again, each of these factors will mean different things to different people.

Dirt trapping devices are on the cards. Hopefully next month if all goes well, and of course after I myself have tested them personally.

Product combos are also coming soon, again dependent on factors which are currently outside of my control.

All I can say is stay tuned, there will be more updates coming. If not interested, there are 1000s of conspiracy theories going around about the world we live in which provide some candid entertainment.  :smilebounce:

Also, I have one of the widely used Grit Guards as well, and I can also confirm that this fits perfectly into the G Shift 20l Wash Buckets.

So there is no excuse why you shouldn't get one of these now and take your car wash routine to the next level.
